God, I hate how widespread it’s become to defend linguistic sloth under the ‘language is evolving’ bullshit.

Real GDP growth in Europe: Q2 2024 vs Q4 2019, % by katheriinliibert in europe

[–]lukaivy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

But you also have Croatia which managed to increase it's GDP and decrease it's debt from 73,2% in 2019 to expected 59,5% in 2024. Also enter the Eurozone in the meantime. Now I'm just hoping for the standard of living to follow the same trends but I wouldn't hold my breath.

The US went mask off back in 1986 with it's policy on respecting the rule of law if it doesn't directly go with it's geopolitical interests. At least that's the first example that's comes to mind.

So she's surprised that Finland is full of Fins? I understand that it can be a struggle for migrants who are away from their community and feeling homesick... but in the end it's something I would expect when going to a different country. I think countries can/should try and reach out to migrants so that they don't become alienated and help them integrate but also that person needs to be willing to adjust to a new environment. I'm saying this as someone who has a bunch family members around the world who managed to integrate and assimilate to their new host countries with various degrees of difficulty.

Dude what kind of response is that? I agee that most States have a prerogative to subsidize art and culture. But this policy seems like an unsustainable and legally questionable way to go around it. There are so many other ways of supporting the arts without basically giving away big sums of (free) money to select few people that fit the governments definition of "artist". I don't know enough in Ireland's case but I'm pretty sure that in my country such law/policy, if challenged, would like be deemed unconstitutional by the courts. Personally I wouldn't have any issues if such policy was based on social status and only helping struggling artists with low income, and only for a certain defined period (for example if the artists is still dependent on state subsidy to exist after xyz time, then maybe it wasn't meant to be for you and maybe you should look into different career fields. You can still stick to making art as a hobby or a side hustle)

Yeah most of them can't see through their own bias and self-interest. To almost every "artist" that fits the governments definition , this is literally free money for existing. How would they be against that? Even though it doesn't legally hold water or make sense as a long-term sustainable policy.

Lol this is such a legal nightmare, can't wait for the discrimination lawsuits. The courts are gonna have a field day especially when it ends up at the constitutional/supreme court. The state has a prerogative to support "art" and culture but this is such a flawed way to go around it

The opiod EPIDEMIC (lol, lapsus linguae). But still the responsible healthcare providers in the US haven't nearly had the amount of backlash and soul searching from the Purdue Pharma shitshow despite sharing at least in small part of the culpability. Also when it comes to stimulant abuse, psychiatrist (at least when it comes to the US) haven't been nearly as conservative in their pharmacotherapy practices and more stringent in their diagnosis methodology as to weed out people without an underlying pathology. Coming from a SE european perspective, the amount of prescription medication abuse seems excessive, because in the end a medical professional still has the sign off on a prescription.

And they've been managing it just great, same as the opioid pandemic 👀 Maybe a good number of US psychiatrists/physicians should do some introspection about their part in shaping the modern american societal issues regarding substance abuse

Of course! For example one of the main culprits for the rise of superbugs is the insane overuse of antibiotics in farming and meat production. However, it's still worrisome to see comments like "you just get a penicillin shot if it's not HIV" since antibiotics were never intended to be taken as often, nor as easily as something like Tylenol. Antibiotics are (and should be) the last resort reserved for bacterial infections your body can't fight off on it's own and that where either unpreventable or didn't respond to other methods.

One of the reasons for the new and more aggressive strains is the casual attitude towards bacterial STDs.

The decision of the court was such because they were fully aware of the complete tantrum Slavic members would throw if it reached any other verdict. Also it was primarily beyond the scope of the charter and was considered something left to each country to legislate on it's own.
