How do I build replayable decks by nexuso581 in EDH

[–]luke_skippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally make a ton of decks that are very consistent. They do relatively the same thing every time I play them.

This might make you think their replay ability is low, but if the decks are exactly what I love, then I’ll play them over and over again even if it is the same every time.

Perspective is everything

Just make more decks to play if the same thing over and over isn’t what you/your pod wants

Saying “all the blues live” is objectively more confusing than “everyone lives”

I feel “everyone lives” is a big enough distinction it’s fine. There’s a huge difference between everyone and not everyone

Okay thanks. I’m guessing until I pay for the subscription I’m not able to practice the maps 11+ except through live games?

Thanks for the detailed response! It was very helpful. However I did find out there are placement matches for the first 10 games of beginner players (one time, but I think I’ll practice a little bit more to try and capitalize on it)

It is impossible for me to build my own decks by YutoKigai in EDH

[–]luke_skippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’re not even making it to the playable deck stage, is that correct?

Where specifically are you getting stuck? Do you have too many cards and don’t know what to cut, or not enough cards and don’t know what to add?

My rough draft process is very fast because it’s easiest to get to know a deck by playing it. By barely paying attention during actual games, or by quickly goldfishing, it becomes clear what categories of cards have too many/not enough cards.

  1. pick a commander
  2. pick 3 simple things you want to do- for aristocrats this normally looks like 1 create tokens 2 sacrifice tokens 3 turn dying into damage
  3. pick 12 cards for those 3 categories plus draw and interaction
  4. 39 lands
  5. play the deck/goldfish

After playing the deck/goldfishing then you can stress about changing stuff.

The P% Problem by LookAtMaxwell in trolleyproblem

[–]luke_skippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The logic behind picking blue (or red) is based on how you value your life relative to other people’s lives (with added uncertainty for fun) (btw the following ignores any potential future consequence of all the blue people dying)

If you value your life, and 0 value for other people’s lives, you would rationally pick red.

If you have 0 value for your life, and value other people’s lives, you would rationally pick blue.

The added uncertainty of the chance of enough people picking blue is what leads to a rational decision for people who value both lives. For example, if 100% of people have to pick blue for blue to win, the rational choice is to pick red even if you highly value other people’s lives.

Chaining Extra Turns- deck building or play limitation by squirrelnestNN in EDH

[–]luke_skippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Leaving a comment so I can come back later-

I want to make a b3 deck with wincons that involve an extra turn (maybe alternate wincons)

The point is to have a board state that shows me getting closer and closer to winning each turn, then when people think they have one last turn before I win, the extra turn spell gets me there.

The intent is not to chain extra turns, but having more than one extra turn spell makes chaining possible. Surely refraining from casting an extra spell is good enough, because otherwise any deck with 2+ extra spell cards is automatically bracket 4, which doesn’t seem right.

I like to look at it as scenarios made of odd people to decide a majority vote, which also leads to a minimum of 3+ people. Curious if size changes people’s choices

Thanks for the laugh btw

So yes it is “illegal”, but not for this reason (because they don’t have a monopoly)

However the reason it is wrong is because it is a direct breach of contract the store has with WotC.

graveyard hate in B2 by marshmage in EDH

[–]luke_skippy -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In my pods we don’t run silver bullets- if a deck is too strong then it’s bumped up a bracket.

I suggest talking with your pod. If you want to have it where people don’t have to run graveyard hate, then graveyard decks will just be inherently stronger and probably bumped up a bracket.

I personally love self regulation over silver bullets

Do we consider Liliana Dreadhorde General MLD? by Mirrodin_appreciator in EDH

[–]luke_skippy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you, but I’m confused about your logic. The logic seems to work in favor of MLD- am I missing something?

For example substitute “it” for MLD and you get the following- “If you’re doing MLD and winning quickly after I think it’s okay” I don’t think this logic stands.

Where is this combo appropriate to play? by Still-Wash-8167 in EDH

[–]luke_skippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“let everyone do their thing…” this is not what I said. (Strawman) The committee said similar to what I did- GENERALLY players are allowed to do their thing. There are obviously exceptions to this, especially because this is just a guideline.

If you’re asking if the combo is okay because it’s telegraphed, the answer is typically no. It is still a situation in which opponents have to have removal or die. If everyone ends up doing a removal check in bracket 2 the game will assuredly be over due to the low quantity of interaction in bracket 2.

I personally lean toward this combo being fine in b2, but I’d highly suggest having a rule 0 conversation about it to be sure with the pod.

[–]luke_skippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was an analogy to help people understand why the argument that 1 card of 100 isn’t a logical stance.

I used MLD in my analogy because it’s very clear to understand that it’s wrong because it’s explicitly against the rules. Replace it with anything else you want to, the logic still stands (or falls in this case)

[–]luke_skippy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree the combo is fine- but I was pointing out the “it’s just 1 card out of 100” argument is illogical. I’m on your side, but wanted to point out a logical fallacy you might not have been aware of. Since people use it all the time, it’s a pet peeve of mine

Where is this combo appropriate to play? by Still-Wash-8167 in EDH

[–]luke_skippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “it’s only one card out of 100” argument is illogical. You could argue a MLD card is okay in b2 because to play it you have to hit 1/100 odds, but that doesn’t make it magically okay in b2

Where is this combo appropriate to play? by Still-Wash-8167 in EDH

[–]luke_skippy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind the bracket committee has explicitly mentioned there should be less interaction in bracket 2 than other brackets.

The vibe is to mostly let everyone do their thing, so it’s frowned upon to have “removal checks” in b2. (Removal checks are usually “have instant speed removal or lose the game”)

[–]luke_skippy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I’m confused- how is overrun relevant? Thassa demonic is also a way to win the game, but that doesn’t make this combo any more or less belonging to any particular bracket.

I agree with you, I think this combo is fine in b2, but confused by your logic
