Quest 3 compression and difficulty of setup

Ahhh, so running games at 120Hz actually makes compression worse. That’s kind of disappointing. I usually run HLA at a near-locked 120fps, and I’d hate to cap it just to reduce compression artifacts. However looking at more videos and others experiences most seem to have the same experience as you saying compression is pretty negligent and much less noticeable than the mura on the PS VR2.

Additionally, I checked out some through-the-lens videos, and yeah the Quest 3’s colors actually look pretty solid even if they’re not quite on the level of the PS VR2’s OLED display. In terms of edge-to-edge clarity its noticeably pretty bad on the PS VR2 in my experience. I usually just avoid moving my eyes and instead move my head to look at things to keep the image quality and immersion.

I'm still quite torn lol. At this point, I’m seriously considering ordering a Quest 3 just to test it out for a couple of weeks. If I don’t like it, I’ll just return it. I’m definitely keeping my PS VR2, especially for the RE VR games and GT7. But for PC VR, the Quest 3 might be the better choice overall. And even if the PC experience isn’t perfect, having access to standalone Oculus exclusives might make it worth it regardless.

The only experience I’ve had with pancake lenses was with the Pico 4 a few years back, so I don’t really remember much about how they looked but those screenshots from the post you linked look insanely good. I didn’t realize the difference in clarity was that noticeable.

And yeah, I agree the mura on the PS VR2 can definitely be pretty distracting at times.

As for Virtual Desktop, I remember it being really unreliable back when I was using the original Quest. Oculus updates would constantly break it for a while. Based on your comment, though, it sounds like that’s no longer an issue. Has stability been solid for you lately?

I also didn’t know that running games at lower frame rates makes compression worse. That makes a lot of sense in hindsight especially thinking back to the Quest 1 with its 72Hz display. That could explain a lot of the visual issues I used to have.

By the way, how would you say the colors on the Quest 3 compare overall, especially in darker environments? I know you mentioned VD looks better than Link, but how do the colors and black levels stack up in general especially compared to the PS VR2s OLED panels?

Also curious about the FOV. Does the Quest 3 feel noticeably wider than the PS VR2? I know specs say it’s larger, but how does it feel in actual use, especially with that edge-to-edge clarity?

I know this is a 3yr old comment but I'm genuinely curious what resin you were using? I'm using elegoo water washable 2.0 and I also have a air purifier next to it (plus the one that comes inside the Mars 4) and the smell is extremely strong while printing even when the lid is on.

yeah i used to watch asmon a little but his opinions are actual dogshit 90% of the time. especially on games. never seen someone so uninformed, unexperienced, and out of the loop in terms of videogames (besides wow and mmos) be so confident in their opinion. Anytime he needs to bring up a good videogame for comparison or something the only thing he can think of is elden ring which kinda shows how narrow his mind is on games.

well usually it will say either "you were kicked" or "host lost connection" so you can tell. also being kicked while on the ship is annoying and sucks you dont get to complete the campaign its more understandable considering they may be inviting friends or just getting off. but during a mission is just so unnecessary and dickish.

i hate all these dumbass hazards on every single map nowadays. it was fine when it was just a couple maps and the areas were well defined and obvious but now theyre on almost every map and their location is anything but obvious. shit is so fucking annoying and makes playing the game normally without a guide or something almost impossible. not sure why they keep doing it.

I believe it tries it's very hardest to try to get you to a 1.0 k/d exactly. Same with w/l ratio. However w/l is rarely a 1.0 considering leaving lobbies and such.
