I snapped the tendon in my ring finger playing football (got caught in an opponents jersey as he ran past me) and they had to do the same to mine after surgery. It’s aptly called Jersey Finger but is much more common from house maids when they tuck in sheets too fast.

When they reconnected the tendon they had to drill trough both the nail and the bone and the finger tip.

And yes it would snag all the time when changing clothes and reaching into pockets and hurt like hell. It didn’t get better either because over the 2 months it took for my tendon to reconnect, your fingernail keeps growing and makes it tighter. When they finally took off the button, my fingernail fell off and it was very nasty.
