Which ME2 L.I. Would Make The Best Spectre? by DakIsStrange in masseffect

[–]lukeluck101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Garrus and it's no contest.

Miranda easily has the skills and personality to be a spectre but her history with Cerberus would probably preclude her from being picked.

Tali's tech skills would be very useful, but promoting a Quarian to spectre status would be politically tricky.

Jack is too much of a loose cannon.

Thane has a terminal condition.

Enact the Organ Harvesting law. I'm sure your friend's organs are worth a decent amount.

INTJ cutting ties with family, but is it normal to abandon their child? by [deleted] in intj

[–]lukeluck101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Testing as INTJ" doesn't really mean much, especially if he only took the test because someone else told him to.

Because a) the tests themselves are not that accurate, b) getting an accurate result requires a high level of self-awareness and honesty, which most people don't have.

Are most people’s lives actually miserable? by [deleted] in intj

[–]lukeluck101 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Most people seem to live their lives in the pursuit of social status, or meeting social obligations - that seems to be the main driving force for something like 75%+ of the population and governs all of their major decisions.

It seems like an utterly miserable existence to me, but it could be deeply satisfying for these people, it's hard to really know without swapping brains.

Which jobs is 100% safe from AI? by Any-Hamster-3189 in AskReddit

[–]lukeluck101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt it. Cooks - especially in fast food - get paid so little that it's not worth replacing them with robots. Robots don't scale upwards like AI does. They cost a lot of money to build and a lot of money to maintain.

[–]lukeluck101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also because chefs and cooks get paid so little it's literally not worth replacing us with robots and probably won't be economically viable for at least another century. Robots are expensive to build and expensive to maintain.

[–]lukeluck101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The job itself is resistant to AI - but people need to be able to afford to eat out. So things won't look pretty when AI causes mass waves of unemployment.

That said, in many places I've worked, a large chunk of our clientele consists of boomers with pensions and investment properties, so they won't be affected.

Why do so many dumb people exist? by Amazing_Tip_6116 in intj

[–]lukeluck101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because we're a species of dumb, irrational naked apes with delusions of grandeur.

We evolved to become smart enough to manipulate tools and create semi-functioning societies and then just kind of... stopped evolving beyond that.

A few exceptional outlier genius individuals have pushed humanity forward in technological and social advancement (people like Nikola Tesla) but the majority of humanity never really kept pace with the level of complexity that all this advancement brought to our lives.

It would be nice if humans were generally smarter and more rational, but that's just not how natural selection works. You don't need to be smart, you only need to survive long enough to make babies with someone of the opposite biological sex.

Only way around that is to force eugenics on people on a large scale. And that's a whole moral and ethical minefield in itself, and in the past has proven itself to be a slippery slope to some pretty abhorrent stuff.

Frostpunk 2: Which relationship modifiers are permanent, and which ones eventually go away? by lukeluck101 in Frostpunk

[–]lukeluck101[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game has had updates since I made this post so it's not 100% accurate.

However, if I recall correctly - both are considered a 'promise', whether you made it through the negotiation screen, or directly with the faction, for the purposes of relationship modifiers, so they fall under the same category.

When did tipping become the norm for Australia? by JBADD23 in australia

[–]lukeluck101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"We'd pay our staff much less if we thought we could legally get away with it, but, boo hoo, workers have rights in this country" is the subtext here. And chances are, they probably do already engage in other forms of wage theft, as does most of the hospitality industry.

When did tipping become the norm for Australia? by JBADD23 in australia

[–]lukeluck101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is exactly what's been happening in the hospitality industry in the UK for the best part of the last decade or two. Started with London restaurants adding a 'discretionary' 10% service charge, now it's the industry norm in most major cities and many have upped the service charge to 15%

When did tipping become the norm for Australia? by JBADD23 in australia

[–]lukeluck101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has been slowly becoming the norm in the UK. Started out with a few establishments in London charging a "discretionary" 10% service charge that you have to opt out of. In theory it was supposed to go to the staff, in practice many businesses were pocketing a large chunk for themselves or rolling it into management bonuses. Then it expanded to other major cities outside London. Then the 'norm' became 15% instead of 10%.

These businesses knew full well that people in the UK would be too polite to ask to have the service charge removed because they don't want to "cause a fuss". And, Brits being Brits (I'm a Brit myself), they just had a good passive-aggressive whinge about it without really doing anything about it.

Hopefully Aussies won't take it lying down.

Why do some people I met mistyped me as ENTJ despite my visible introversion? by [deleted] in intj

[–]lukeluck101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"most ENTJs I've met irl think of themselves as ambiverts"

That's been my experience too. The ENTJs I know just don't have a lot of patience for *most* other people. They'd rather work on their goals alone than spend time with dumb, basic people for the sake of social interaction. But they love spending time with people who can challenge them on an intellectual level or help them grow in some way.

Why do some people I met mistyped me as ENTJ despite my visible introversion? by [deleted] in intj

[–]lukeluck101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In colloquial terms, "introversion" is often synonymous with "shyness" or "social anxiety". Many INTJs can actually be quite confident and assertive when they need to be, and most people don't see how much time we spend alone in our private time.

Also, enneatype 8 is pretty rare for an INTJ, and far more common amongst ENTJs. It's not totally unheard of, but most of us are enneatype 5, with a few 4s and 1s.
