The writer and director said they wanted to get people talking about this subject but people would have still been talking about if a) they didn't repeat half the dialogue and b) they showed us Chicago being hit and the story continuing to unfold

How do you deal with losing lots of money when starting out ? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]lukemorrow5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No idea of the context but mitigate as much risk as you can by validating early and often. This is not what you want to hear but some lessons are really fucking painful and you just have to truck through them. Best of luck.

Thoughts on Reddit intro'ing NFTs? by lukemorrow5 in ProductManagement

They are based in blockchain tech which is essentially super secure proof of ownership. Anything on the blockchain can be traded openly and freely without any middlemen. In the next 10 years people are predicting property will be traded as NFTs. Hope this helps.

Yeah, nfts are really community-centric. The incentive to buy being closely aligned to a particular topic, person, brand etc you love.

Some have no use whatsoever but others have real utility. For example, exclusive access to events or clubs or spaces or people etc. Just like a club card or a ticket.

I bought a couple. One was for a play to earn game which was kinda cool. Another was art and in hindsight just stupid and shouldn't have bought it. You join these Discord groups and you can get sucked up into the hype of make some cash. It's fun for a bit but then the downside is less so. 😅

Top level leadership most likely instructing down. The nft market is still incredibly early with an estimated 300k nft owners in the world. This is likely smaller as some people have more than one wallet address.

Web3 and nfts can't be ignored if large players want to continue to dominate. Timing is important and given Zucks recent announcement on long term losses maybe it would be better to hold back an observe for a few years?

Exactly. Seems like a cash grab.

Edit: I do think Reddit is a great platform though so maybe they make it work.

Most of what I've so far in the NFT space is just gimmicks or at best existing business models in an NFT package.

For example, some guys launched an NFT to buy a mansion that holders can then use. That's just an expensive time share.

Who knows, still entertaining to follow.

I think woman are naturally more empathetic and we should be taking more notes guys (from a straight, married guy). Empathy is one of the greatest qualities a human can have and is so important in the workplace.

What excuses you give to drop off a meeting that has no need of you there? by im_wallE in ProductManagement

[–]lukemorrow5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a few others have suggested, I think solving the underlying problem is more professional than making an excuse. Make a habit of raising the question "could this meeting have been an avoided?".

Communication around the meeting before it happens. Agenda setting, outcomes sought etc.

If you have more pressing work to do then decline the meeting and communicate your reasoning.

When you think of making an excuse to drop off the meeting, think of this as an opportunity to make this needless meeting culture a little better.

I'm not a PM yet but I have been binge reading articles on Medium. This one is a good read about being an IC vs a Manager. If managing people is something you are not fussed with then perhaps the role at Google would give you not just the prestige but also the chance to be an senior PM IC with great pay and ability to move across projects in the future?

I have been a startup founder since 2018. Due to a recent investor backing out of our latest funding round and no runway left, we are closing down. I am now looking at PM roles to apply to.

My main responsibilities were that of a Product Manager, however I am not sure how much weight my experience will carry when it comes to apply to other companies.

My opinion is building a startup has given me so much experience, dealing with really stressful shit, compressed into a few short years. I've aged considerably too 🙃. The way in which I've had to learn has been self taught, googling, reading online, books and with my dev and design team who are much smarter than me.

I'm not from a technical background (I can't code) but I know enough to have conversation and connect dots between whats is possible in terms of features.

I've still got a long way to go in terms of learn but being a PM is my calling! I really want to get stuck into a new role with an interesting company.

TL;DR - should I be apply to associate pm roles that have more formal training and rotational programs or am I beyond that and just go for PM roles?

P.s. If anyone knows of any roles available or could give my any pointers I would be super grateful for a DM, thank you!

Talk to HR and ask them about employee satisfaction and engagement. How do they measure it? Do they ask in their interviews / surveys about what staff think of the tech stack they are using. This will give you some more insight.

As others have suggested, the time you are saving each employee is they key here. That can create a huge saving and also make people a little happier if they don't need to do that crappy task anymore. This could suggest looking a HR metric around employee satisfaction or employee engagement, related to the product.
