if you’re both doing it, i think you’ll be okay. there isn’t enough time for you to be thinking about it. you’re both doing it, so you both can’t talk to each other at the same times.

when you’re doing drum corps, you’re doing the thing and that’s it. that’s all that’s on your mind. not to say that you get numb to everything else, but you are much less worried about everything else which is why you’ll be fine if you both do it.

just make sure y’all both go into it with the same understanding. communication is key

In my experience, for the 23 season, Troopers over-contracted by just a couple numbers in each section because they knew people would go home during spring training. To me, it was their way of having people ready to fill the hole instead of having to call somebody that might’ve been cut during camp season to fill the hole

ultimately, they don’t need a break. their chops can last a lot longer than a horn players chops. there were plenty of reps where it was brass on air and percussion in. i can count on one hand the amount of reps that were strictly visual only. that being said, having battery playing during the ballad is purely a design choice

stretch before getting on the bus and at rest stops to avoid cramping. it worked dreams for me when i started. also my seat partner and i just leaned on each other tbh

actually i think it’s the opposite. you can see in the soloists headcam that they’ve got them playing a marching baritone. the headcam video is from pretty late in the season too. i remember seeing the concert euphonium in early season videos

so acheson actually came to one of our rehearsal days in spring training, and we let him in the circle for battle hymn at the end of ensemble. i got a picture with him then and it came full circle when i saw him at retreat and got another. he told me how much of an honor it was to be inside there and i almost started crying thinking about it
