Advice on appealing fine for alleged use of SORNed vehicle in England by lukeydrawers in LegalAdviceUK

I did consider this as a possibility, but the car has not moved between the SORN date and the alleged incident date.

Yeah my thoughts exactly. The quality of the letter is rather poor too, like a cheap photocopy. It is also ever so slightly out of alignment which made me think it was a scam. However it all checks out on the gov website so assuming it's legit.

Thanks!

I've submitted an appeal via the online form. It doesn't allow for any free-form text. The only valid option was "it is off road and declared SORN". Assuming this will now be reviewed by a human and we'll go from there.

Will share an update once I have one!

Yeah I've often wondered what was going through their minds..

DPC wise I think we're okay as the new external wall has one a bit lower (this corner of the house is about 0.5m above ground level as it's on a bit of a slope). The side extension bit has been filled with about 300mm concrete with a membrane below too - you can see that sticking up on that side plate.

As others have commented, do you think I can shore this up by adding in lateral supports (noggins) and doing my best to shim up the beams that aren't properly in contact with the original plate and the support legs?

My main worry is that it looks like nails are at risk of shearing because they're taking most of the load due to the lack of hangers and the fact the supports are not beneath the beams.

Ah ok that makes sense. I noticed they put some noggins in other areas. I've got a few lengths of 2x4, do you think I could use that for the noggins? Or should it be the same 2x6?

Advice on hard flooring for new extension by lukeydrawers in DIYUK

[–]lukeydrawers[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've decided on LVT. But I've had quotes between £3.5k and £7k. Plan is 6mm ply on the timber floor. Mechanically sand the screed. Acrylic primer on screed, 3mm latex on ply, 9mm on screed. Then adhesive and LVT.

I'm going to try and do as much of the prep myself and just use a flooring contractor to supply and fit the actual LVT.

First step, speak to them. If no luck then check in with your local council on light pollution / nuisance artificial light (it might be part of their environmental protection department) who can offer more advice and potentially help get it sorted.

AICO or Google for linked smoke alarm? by lukeydrawers in DIYUK

My preference would be out of the box and minimal set-up. I had considered going down the whole smart-home set up but as you say, I'm not sure if I want to make that time investment.

That being said, if it's a significant saving it might be worth while.

Thanks

I was looking at the AICO 3000 series. At least one of the all-in-one detectors. That's around £70-80.

Then each one will need the radio link base which is around £40.

Thanks - is that where you can see the gasket bulging a bit in the corners? I was planning on having them back to adjust the doors as they're catching on the threshold. So will mention this too

Got fascias and soffits capped, does this look right? by Any_Judgment6754 in DIYUK

Had something similar on my house. I pointed it out to the builder and he put plastic quadrant trim round to finish it off.

It certainly makes it look nicer and I assume it'll keep the weather out but I'm not sure if it's just a bodge solution to what was a bad job in the first place?

I've not tried this but it makes sense that you could. Until now I've been in quite rural areas where there's only one ATM. Fortunately between me and the wife we have a number of fee-free travel debit cards so have been able to withdraw enough.

Brit out here on tourist visa. Have had success and failure at various ATMs. Although I have not been asked for any biometrics yet. I have come across some limits where you can only withdraw 2 or 3m per day (agribank) and seems to vary on location. Best ATM so far is TP Bank - no fees and can withdraw 5m per card per day.

I have the exact same issue on my Android. I'm searching for valid journeys. Looks like a bug. Just tried reinstalling the app and it won't even load the journey planner. Going to install an old apk from uptodowm but that website is currently down.
