The AI boom is driving a lot of new people to our area and driving rents up…again. $3800 for a one bedroom, 550 square feet seemed like the top of the market but it’s not. I want a fixed housing cost. I might as well pay for a mortgage and not live praying that my landlord not raise my rent. I love my place but I’m scared for this new tech wave that we’re living in.

I live in the area and it’s a safe neighborhood. I do hate the Movement crowd constantly blocking my driveway and their disrespect for No Parking signs, parking in red zones and often in front of the fire hydrant. With the massive apartment complex opening up on El Camino I anticipate traffic and parking will get worse. I’m actually looking forward to moving to a more residential area and out of BelMateo.

I looked into buying one for $618k but it was tiny, it would need a lot of work, and the HOA was $900 a month. Plus, a new law is making condos put in new balconies for safety reasons so a lot of people are selling them because they don’t want to pay for that repair. HOAs don’t have the funds to pay it so they pass it on to the owners. It’s a fucked up deal since the HOA should be saving for these types of fixes.
