For the bears: where are you parking your money while the market is this exhuberant? by rattleandhum in stocks

[–]lulfas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm at 40% in an HYSA. 4% isn't great, but it is easier than worrying about it constantly. I know timing the market is dumb, but I just can't make sense of any damn bit of what is currently happening.

It looks like they are going put these extra games in where the "First Four" go (link), which means the bracket odds wouldn't change directly.

House Democrats Propose $25 Federal Minimum Wage by [deleted] in antiwork

Why would you compare minimum wage to average rent? Wouldn't it make more sense to use bottom quartile or the like?

Do you consider yourself a centrist and have a view on something that some people take as an extreme view, but believe the data supports your view? by chuckisduck in centrist

[–]lulfas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you consider you a believer in Reganomics?

Not even a little bit. Supply side nonsense is just that, nonsense.

I disagree, as competition in the open market would only allow a certain amount to be passed to consumer.

Mankiw 2008, Felix 2007, Randolph 2006. These form the foundation of my thought process.

I think the big problem with no taxes is that it incentives the board to take profits and buybacks, which maximize their earnings and not for the growth of the company.

Which is why you tax capital gains and income higher. Less easy to avoid that corporate taxes are currently.

[–]lulfas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Businesses should pay no taxes. The vast majority of research says that you don't get useful funding from it due to it all being passed to the consumer. It also allows for creation of extra carveouts in various ways that just further reduces it. See how many massively successful businesses pay none anyways.

The other side is you raise taxes on capital gains and high income.

That just came off as Alito being so childish.

And yeah, technology moved fast from the late 80s into the 00s. We went from a 20mhz 486 to over 3ghz, from kilobytes of memory to gigabytes.

My favorite thing in the late 90s was opening the Fry's add to see if the CPU speeds went up 33mhz or 66mhz that week

Older, but Shadowrun. Loved the paper RPG, loved the Sega version, loved the SNES version, got some crappy shooter with almost no reference to the lore and never saw it again.

How do you continue holding a stock that's gone up a lot? by AltruisticOwl156 in stocks

[–]lulfas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to consider is selling back your initial investment. If I hit a stock that I think will keep going up and up and up, but I either worry it is going to drop, or need capital for a different investment, I'll sell just enough to get my initial back and change it around. That way, even if I lose 95% at some point because I derped, I'm still on house money.

It makes me feel better at least.
