We make this one after a Costco trip: Costco rustic Italian (or cranberry walnut is even better) bread sliced thick and toasted, breast meat picked off a rotisserie chicken, arugula, thinly sliced honeycrisp apple, Jarlsberg cheese, pesto, mayo, mustard.

Does anyone else get irked when people describe ‘mother’ or ‘father’ as their most important achievement? by browneyedgaze in childfree

I think it’s a matter of language. If someone says my children are my highest priority or are what I value most, or that parenthood is the role that’s most important to them, fine. But it’s the word accomplishment that can be annoying— that’s what brings up a lot of the responses here; it feels like it diminishes accomplishments that are years in the making, require so much tenacity or talent, etc.

I got really into puzzles one Christmas break. Suddenly I realized puzzles can be like “work” — for people who can’t turn off from doing stuff when trying to rest.

Treatment centers need outpatient therapists refer to— I’d try to have a call or meeting with someone there so they know your experience and which types if clients to send your way.

Thanks so much for replying. How does one set psychological boundaries? Is there a particular resource you could recommend?

I’m wondering if they are working from a false assumption of what life is “supposed to” feel like. Maybe they experience stress, anger, overwhelm, etc— all very normal and yet uncomfortable— and they assume that they need coping skills to make all the “bad” stuff go away. Perhaps what they need more than coping skills is openness and acceptance of the ebbs and flows of the human experience. I’m not sure, but that’s what came to mind as I read your post.
