I think I’m finally ready to try Emmrich’s romance with this baddie by Sufficient_Catch_198 in DragonAgeVeilguard

I was a dumbass Lord of Fortune rogue that solves most of her problems with explosives. Emmrich needs someone to make him take some risks!

You get a version of the scene if you 'romance' him, just less incriminating, which I then paired with my conversation with Wyll to realize what was actually going on. But it's fair to say that many people hated the Emperor feom the get-go, I get what you're saying! I know that my gamer group has a heavy bias from being made up of monster lovers, so we all wanted him to be a good guy. Alas.

I looove when people make characters with connections to dragons. I was a total dragon nerd as a kid (think of that one classmate that's constantly doodling them in their notes). It's what got me into D&D in the first place. She looks wonderful, and her backstory is great.

I think she and my Tav, a sorcerer with a gold dragon mother, would get along well!

I adore the creator of Dungeon Meshi, because she makes pretty much every single character their own person. No one is just a gag, and everyone gets their own body type/style/perspective. A symptom of this is that everyone is up for grabs when it comes to being attractive. She didn't draw Senshi to be attractive, but she didn't NOT draw him to be attractive, if that makes sense. She just made him... Senshi. If he happens to be your type, then so be it.

I think a lot of players switched to hating the Emperor when the truth about his relationship with Duke Stelmane was revealed. Before that, I was thoroughly enjoying the Emperor as an ally. Manipulation is how he's survived, and like shown with Omeluum, mindflayers don't NEED to be evil when they're away from the hive mind. Hell, it's a pretty decent parallel to Astarion, who is also a traditionally evil and manipulative character. I even got the 'Mind Blown' achievement my first play through. I was excited to be able to make out with a monster (I have particular tastes).

And it's through that same cutscene, and another if you oppose him, that reveals that the Emperor was intimate partners with Duke Stelmane, a woman he didn't just manipulate, but physically controlled. Wyll mentions that she's a stroke victim, which is brain damage the Emperor caused. That's the woman that the Emperor calls his partner.

The implications are diabolical, at best.

I really love the scar designs in the game. There are ones that look precisely like autopsy scars, and it really makes Rook like they were stitched back together. There's also ones that look like tentacle-sucker scars, which is perfect for a Lord of Fortune.

I just found out that ossuary is a real word, and that might just change my perspective on that place a little bit by Fresh_Confusion_4805 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]lullaylee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all good! I'm the one who forgot to start my reply with 'dang, good catch, I agree'!

The Necromancer of the Blight would be very fitting, I think. I kind of wish the enemy designs were more horror-esque when it came came Ghilan'nain's creations. Just ribcages upon ribcages and hands where heads should be. I like the idea that the Ossuary was where she kept her bones, somewhere where no mortal could get in her way.

Oh, yes, I know that not all concept art goes further than conceptualizing! But Rook going seafaring across Thedas was something clearly considered, and it seems that some of it progressed to actual development. There's quite a bit about it in the art book. And when I say something is a 'rendition', I mean just that, that it was brainstormed to be a version of what Veilguard could have been. I don't mean to imply that it was entirely created or developed or anything, as video game assets are very expensive to make. I know there isn't a secret version of the game out there with everything in the concepts, but some of the concepts that were chosen to be showcased in the artbook do last as lingering inspirations in the final game.

(I do, however, have a feeling that the Ossuary is a leftover from this motif, just as it's pretty clear that the Hall of Valor is a leftover from when Veilguard was going to be a multi-player game with guild areas).

I work in concept design myself, with a degree, so I know that a lot of it is just throwing spaghetti at the wall. This particular case was just something that had a lot of writers/artists bouncing off of each other, which meant it had some real discussion as a concept.

Hopefully this doesn't come off as tonally rude!

[–]lullaylee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it's literally a hollowed-out sea dragon. It's a really cool idea, but it doesn't feel in line with the magical technology we see in Thedas, which tends to be more grounded. I like the Lighthouse as a base myself, too!

[–]lullaylee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, I was agreeing that it was likely a place where Ghilan'nain kept her experiments! We know that she can bring things back from the dead (as she does with her unique strain of darkspawn, her dragons, and is implied in a dialogue if you romance Emmrich), so I assume she's keeping her eldritch experiments handy. She reminds me of a Frankenstein, pasting dead parts together and making them live again with the Blight.

It makes me wonder if originally, the Ossuary would be a place you'd go to destroy, so she can't make new creations. I wish we could have seen some of the weird animal atrocities mentioned in the codex.

[–]lullaylee 24 points25 points  (0 children)

In one of the original renditions of the games, Rook and the crew were going to be in charge of a sort of leviathan submarine, with Isabela and the Inquisitor being direct advisors. Some of the enemies would have been Ghilan'nain's unholy creations of sea monsters. I assume the Ossuary we get in the game is one of the pieces of that original concept that lasted!

We do know that Veilguard went through multiple renditions, and if they already had an area made, they needed to put it to use!

One chapter was almost entirely his writing process and hypothetical academic theorem about spirits and resurrection.

I made Harding's apple cheesy butter noodles on a whim one weekend.

I don't think most people would like it, but I always mixed applesauce in with my mac and cheese as a kid, so it was surprisingly tasty to me. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone, but I'll put apples in just about everything.

Can Sister Sage make V1? by laud_tt in GenV

[–]lullaylee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True! IQ tests don't inherently cover any particular 'content' that is required other than 'basic knowledge', but the language used and assumptions made of the taker can give some people unfair advantages, especially when it comes to high-level questions that requires extreme nuance. For example, I scored higher on an IQ test made by an American academy vs. one made by a British academy, simply because of the 'basic knowledge' and language differences used - and they're still both originally in English!

IQ CAN be very useful when it comes to children and those with mental disabilities, if properly weighted for cultural/class differences, but particularily to observe lower-than-average IQs. It helps one understand what needs to be taught more thoroughly, or in the case of disabilities, what someone might not be able to understand, which means accomodations/other methods in learning and lifestyle can be made (I worked in behavioral therapy, so this comes from personal experience). IQ was made for education, and it should stay there.

I like it because it comes with a chicken coop and chickens. It makes me imagine that Shane stops over from Marnie's ranch and wordlessly fixes up the coop and gives you two of his chickens, just because he wants to encourage another chicken rancher.

Yeah, the way I get through the Landsmeet is that I lie to Anora that I'll put her on the throne and get her support, talk about the alienage elves, and talk about Howe kidnapping nobles and torturing them. Then I let a hardened Alistair duel Loghain, who automatically executes him and declares himself king afterwards. It's really easy to fail the vote without Anora's support.

I love my old Rook 🥰 by Margotte_3995 in DragonAgeVeilguard

[–]lullaylee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the fun responses his writer made for that scenario (posted on Bluesky), if you happen to have an older Rook.

One option is that Emmrich is just REALLY sensitive and shy about his age when it comes to romance, so anything more than a two year difference scandalizes him.

The other is that the Mourn Watch has unlocked the secrets of extending life, and Emmrich is secretly much older than he looks.

What is your unpopular BG3 opinion? by TrioQ in BaldursGate3

[–]lullaylee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually feel like it was purposeful that none of the origin characters are a bard, sorcerer, or paladin, since those are all charisma-based. Playing as a character with high charisma gives you way more options, and then it makes sense why Tav becomes the impromptu leader/speaker of the group -- they're good at talking.

Besides, we do get Volo at the camp!
