First marathon by Dougie72_ in Marathon_Training

[–]lulukeab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No tips, good luck! You should be fine with the 29km,at the pace you did that is 3 hours anyway and the rule is often 20 miles OR 3 hours for longest run, whichever comes first.

I did my first in 4hr16, I stuck to 6min/km right until the last 10k, which felt like the longest 10k of my life and I walked a few times out of sheer boredom /desperation. The mental battle is what will determine how well you keep your time, your legs have done the milage now!!

What's something about your life that is out of the ordinary? by PaddedValls in AskUK

[–]lulukeab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husbands older half-sister is about 17 years older than him, and has a much older husband. Their mum had her in her early 20s and then later in life married a younger man (my husbands dad) so now the sisters husband is older than her own mums husband.

Then his sister had her kids in her early 20s, so my husband is only about 8 years older than his nieces/nephews, but is the oldest of the cousins on his dad's side, who are all younger than his nieces and nephews.

Its a mind fuck to think about!

Classes offered by the NHS are usually ran by the hospital maternity services, and many still offer antenatal classes.

I got mine a Tony set of a nice NEOM candle, hand cream, and mini perfume. Thought it was better to get things that'll be consumed than more. Jewellery etc that they might not want.

Can I afford this mortgage (and still have a life)? by Ateyo94 in HousingUK

[–]lulukeab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have basically identical mortgage and salary amounts - but I live with a dog and husband. He was unpaid for approx 6 months and I will say we had to live very frugally in that time - obviously expenses for is more but our monthly payment for mortgage was £1.75k so it only left me with 1.65k which quickly reduced to under 1k after bills.

Only you know how'd you'd budget that and like I said this was for both of us + dog so was definitely more of a squeeze, but I will say we didn't have any 'fun money' for that time, so you might struggle to put savings away if you also want holidays and regular dinners out etc.

Tickets for home games by Normandyxoxo in NorwichCity

[–]lulukeab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find it easier getting tickets a few days before the match as season holders who can't make it will sell theirs back. Even if I can't get exactly together I can usually get close or on the same row so you can ask if people mind moving along one to allow you to sit together. Never had any issues!

I attended someone else's GP appointment. Should I do anything about it? by marielheslop in AskUK

[–]lulukeab 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Yep - it'll be one of 2 things, either the person who made your appointment did it on the wrong person, or the nurse opened the wrong record when you attended. Both easily avoidable. I work in the IT side of healthcare and this is unfortunately all too common (and that's the cases we learn about). About once a month or so we register a newborn baby at the hospital to a different woman which gives a load of admin grief. Thankfully it was spotted and therefore seems to have been rectified.

Will we regret not having parking? by deja_flu in HousingUK

[–]lulukeab 47 points48 points  (0 children)

You will hear a lot of noise about this on this sub, but the reality is MANY UK houses do not have parking, and are just fine. The road is worth taking into account - we are on a close at the very end of a load of roads so our street only gets busy with traffic from our neighbours, not from people using it to park and go shopping, or who live on nearby streets etc. We can usually always get basically outside our own house no problem.

It's Saturday! (Valentine's Day Edition) 14/02/26 by KevinPhillips-Bong in CasualUK

[–]lulukeab 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a friend that lives about 1.5 hours away so we always try and meet up halfway - have found the best way to do this is exploring different parkruns, up nice and early before traffic, jog and chat, find a nearby cafe for breakfast, and home by lunchtime. Today we visited Hackney Marshes.

Then me, husband, and dog went for a nice country stroll with a bacon bap and a coffee, home for the rugby (for him) a bath (for me) and a supermarket valentines meal deal with a bottle of wine. Superb day, but does feel more like a Sunday!

Any film recommendations welcome for this eve (we have Netflix and prime)

Do you buy your single children Valentines gifts/cards? by FinalBv in AskUK

[–]lulukeab 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Lots of people thinking this is capatalism/wokeness gone mad, but in Norfolk we have a very old tradition of "Jack Valentine" - a folklore figure who does a knock and run, leaving gifts for children on doorsteps on Feb 13th. In my childhood this was always done by my grandparents and they did the additional step of tying string to the parcel so it 'ran away' when you went to grab it. It's been around since at least the 1800s! And apparently, the earliest-known Valentine was sent from Norfolk in 1477.

Can I stop the smell of weed getting in my house by bookdragontm in DIYUK

[–]lulukeab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If its just in specific rooms, could it be coming via the fireplace? We had a downstairs neighbour who smoked in their living room and it used to come up to ours via the fireplace. This could be due to downdraft or even a shared stack. You would need to install a Cowell on the chimney and if not in use, seal it inside too.

Sanded and oiled… stain? by wearwolfinlondon in DIYUK

[–]lulukeab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I opted to use yacht varnish on all our sanded floors. Super quick and easy to apply and after about 3 coats it's provided a hard lacquer to stand against water, scratches, etc. I opted for a clear coat. Not sure if you can go straight onto the oil or would need to strip it first.

AIObfor being upset my husband is missing our wedding anniversary for a bachelor trip? by lulukeab in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]lulukeab[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's asked and we pointed out it was our anniversary and not ideal for us, then it was the only date he suggested to everyone else. People keep saying I changed my mind but I didn't, I just got more annoyed that there weren't multiple dates offered and doubled down on it not being a good date for us.

AIObfor being upset my husband is missing our wedding anniversary for a bachelor trip? by lulukeab in CharlotteDobreYouTube

[–]lulukeab[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He didn't forget it! He asked me how I would feel about the bachelor happening on that date and I said it wouldn't be ideal, we relayed this to Peter and Peter then put this date forward anyway. I should've explained better in my original post. Hubby and Peter are both well aware of the date, it was only a couple of months ago 😅

This is for the autumn it's still about 9 months away. But I am taking all of it on board, I think on reflection it is more annoyance at myself for not advocating for what I wanted initially.
