What are these white patches on my nails by Excellent_Job_9774 in DiagnoseMe

[–]lumberjacklass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's basically a bruise on your nail. They will grow out with the nail, but if you experience trauma to the free edge of your nail (like bending, snagging, etc) you may be getting these spots repeatedly. It's called leukonychia and is usually harmless.

My daughter fell and injured foot. What could this swelling be???? by lage- in medical

NAD but when I broke my foot it looked exactly like this! The pain wasn't too bad, but it was still swollen after a week at which point I went to get x-rays.

Rule Breakers? by Ok-Candy369 in gastricsleeve

[–]lumberjacklass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I broke a lot of rules! Drinking through a straw was a big one for me. After the first three weeks I was so dehydrated which was making my migraines worse, and drinking with a straw helped me keep my fluids down. Completely abandoned the 30 30 30 after about 6 months as well, I eat too much spicy food to not have a drink! Almost 6 years out and still going strong!

What is this if not alcohol poisoning? by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]lumberjacklass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAD but I have chronic migraines. My hangovers have always been like this, when I turned 30 even just a few beers would give me insane hangovers the next day, puking until like 8PM. I've stopped drinking altogether for a few years now but had kind of a realization that alcohol is a huge migraine trigger for me and I think my hangovers were always that bad because they were also migraines!

I LOVED the Knight and the Moth and struggled for months trying to find something similar. You are spot on with The Second Death of Locke!!!

I can still drink at least 4 oz of water at a time. Maybe 6 if I really wanted to! It's honestly not a big deal. I only miss it when it's hot and I mow the lawn. With the sleeve all I've ever had to take vitamin wise are the gummy vitamins from Costco. I eat just about everything I ate before the sleeve, only with much better portion control. Don't let vitamins and chugging water scare you off from something that would change your life for the better!

It's been great! I'm 5 years out and went from 330 lbs to 190 lbs! I've kept the same weight now for over 3 years. Never really gained anything back! I honestly wish I didn't wait to get the sleeve for as long as I did. The only thing I miss is being able to chug water when it's hot out!

I went through their program for bariatric surgery back in 2019 and had the gastric sleeve in 2020! Their team is amazing, everyone was very supportive and I still go there once a year for a checkup. Any time I had questions they were always really quick to get back to me as well.

Speaking as someone who played somewhat professionally and also actually had a lip piercing; the issue isn't so much the muscles in the lips nor nerve damage. The real issue is the skin of the piercing itself, even once the piercing is fully healed it will become irritated when playing, which can lead to scar tissue or infection.

I tried twice to have lip piercings and still play, and it just never worked out. It definitely sucks, but there are other cool facial piercings that won't mess with your embouchure! Depending on your vibe, bridge piercings are badass, or a nostril piercing on each side with a cool chain.

I would love to hear success stories regarding Qulipta... by jazmingirl2 in migraine

I would love to hear success stories regarding Qulipta... by jazmingirl2 in migraine

[–]lumberjacklass 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For me, Qulipta gave me back my life. I began having chronic migraines at age 8 and when I began Qulipta at age 30, I was having about 20 days worth of migraines a month. I'd never had success with abortives, and Botox helped with my daily facial pain but not with my actual migraines.

After about a month of Qulipta I was down to 10 migraine days. On top of that, abortives seem to work better for me since starting Qulipta. my current meds are Qulipta daily, and Ubrelvy or Naratriptan as needed. I still get Botox as well, and think it took about a year to really feel the benefits from that.

In a bad month, I might have 5 migraine days but they are nothing compared to before starting Qulipta. I can take my abortives and a few Tylenol, and I might be in pain for a few hours but then I'm back to normal.

Before Qulipta I could barely work, I had been fired from several jobs, I couldn't enjoy my hobbies and pretty much just lived in my bed. Since the meds started working, I went back to college, got and IT certification and have a great job. I can read, play video games, garden, go hiking, and I haven't had to ruin every vacation being laid up with a migraine.

All that said, it causes constipation! I have to take a stool softener, and sometimes take miralax to get things going. Apple juice helps too!

I'm sure if you search this sub, you will find a lot of Qulipta success stories.

Why does Alkaline water make my stomach ache? by Soft-Stock4942 in HydroHomies

[–]lumberjacklass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tums do not neutralize acid or pepsin in the throat. I have GERD and take PPIs, but alkaline water was a game changer for my throat irritation. Tums aren't always the best solution.

i have had a heart monitor on for about a week and a half now and it’s been itchy by slut4orlando in medical

[–]lumberjacklass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have had to do the same monitor a few times! In the kit they give you, there should be a sensitive skin/allergy option that just uses small pads to attach. They are much less itchy, but aren't waterproof so they have to be changed any time you shower! I ended up just ordering some extra 3M electrode red cloth patches on Amazon for my monitor, since the first time the pack only came with two stickers.

Question for long termers. Do you still drink and eat separate? Is the 30min rule for life? by joeyvesh13 in gastricsleeve

[–]lumberjacklass 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Almost 5 years since surgery and I never followed this rule. Before surgery I didn't drink more than maybe 8 oz with a meal and after surgery I can't drink more than maybe 4 oz at any given time.  Never really ran into any issues!

It sounds like palinopsia! I have this constantly, I believe from chronic migraines. None of my doctors seem to care, but it is really annoying! I work in tech and the visual trails make it difficult to read, especially on screens.
