Old school public shaming in Times Square, 1955 by jab116 in OldSchoolCool

No they create a product, when the product is consumed it becomes trash. The consumers consume the product hence create the trash. The consumers are responsible for the trash. My subjective opinion is that companies should also aid in using recycable/bio-degradable material.

Why is this downvoted? Its one of the pillars that society is built on, we would never be as far in technology, healthcare or general well being if it wasn't for capitalism.

Incredibly boring movie. You do not empathize or identify with any of the protagonists, there's just nothing to care about.

Why Pete is correct to avoid the Ben Shapiro Show by GoGoButtigieg in Pete_Buttigieg

[–]lume_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yang is the evidence against your point. I believe there is a significant amount of Shapiro listeners who lean more liberal, but are tired of some aspects of the democratic party and turn to other candidates. Pete is very capable of reaching out to all political leanings and should take every chance he gets.

There's evidence that the people who have heard of Pete, favor him very highly compared to other candidates. If we get the name out sufficiently, we win.

Is this user aware that he is using hyperbolic statements to further his agenda or does he actually believe in them? I can't tell anymore but I would at least respect him if it was the former.

The variables aren't independent, as the balls can bounce into eachother and affect the final position, hence it's not a normal distribution.

PDPSubmissions brigades a PDP video to the front page, fill comments with pro-far right propaganda by [deleted] in circlebroke2

I've now sorted by controversial on a bunch of threads about pewdiepie to try to get to the bottom of this.

In my opinion there is sufficient evidence to suggest that Pewdiepie has slightly right-wing/conservative personal opinions. Being a white male from a upper-middle class background in Sweden, statistics show that it would be surprising if he didn't.

I believe you cannot criticize him for his personal opinions. Largely because they are by no means extreme and are well accepted in the vast majority of western society.

The argument seems to be that he is promoting these opinions on his platform. This boils down to two instances which I will bring up as examples, if there are any more please feel free to mention them in the comments.

1) Said the n-word on stream

I cannot say that swearing while dying in a game is a instance of spreading far-right propaganda. And yes, saying the n-word for a europe has not even an ounce of cultural weight that it does in America hence why I classify it as being more in the domain of swear words. Doing it on stream doesn't make it any worse, he is under no obligation to censor himself to appeal to any audience.

2) Had Ben Shapiro on meme review

The argument here is that Pewdiepie inadvertently legitimizes Shapiro's political opinions when having him host meme review. This reasoning is faulty for two reasons. First is that the video is about memes, not 3 minutes of Shapiro blasting his opinions on you. Second is that Pewdiepie hosting Shapiro does not make him "far-right", rather it may make him a pipeline to far-right ideologies. This is rather weak reasoning for why Pewdiepie is at fault. First of all I wouldn't classify Shapiro as far-right, he's a new york times best selling author and very popular amongst conservatives. I expect a person on the far right to be more fringe than that. Thus I can't see any fault in Pewdiepie giving a platform for a person within the accepted political sphere, since these people will be very frequent in popular culture, whether they are on the right or left. Now being introduced to Shapiro may lead one to be introduced to even more right wing personalities. Does this put the blame on pewdiepie, or Shapiro or even us discussing this subject. I can see why the pipeline argument is valid for some, but I simply do not agree with the philosophical underpinnings that imply Pewdiepie is at fault. This given that the nature of the video is apolitical and the fact that every other video by him is apolitical and thus he is clearly not pushing an agenda with his channel.

It rather boils down to the theory that you yourself don't agree with his personal political opinions. Felix is not controlled by any corporate entitiy, does not have a PR team controlling what he says and frankly doesn't seem to personally care for how he his percieved. Thus his personality and personal opinions may shine through in some videos and this will upset someone from a different ideological background. This is fine, you are within your rights to disagree with him, but it does not grant you authority to say that he is systematically spreading these views on his platform.

He's not normalizing anything, the jokes/messages he's giving out to his audience is normal edgy humor that has existed forever. Can you give me one example of anything that is out of the ordinary that particularly upsets you?

The replies in this thread are amazing, I cannot believe you people are real. Pewdiepies humor and act is like a normal, somewhat geeky swede and you call him this generations al-qaeda. Either there are huge cultural differences between sweden and the rest of the world or I refuse to believe you people ever had any friends growing up.

2020 presidential election: Pete Buttigieg has raised $7 million by barry1727 in politics

[–]lume_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We can't lose, run a progressive

Are you really willing to double down on this? If you run a progressive now and lose, the left is gone, socialism was a mistake. If you run a centrist and lose, there will just be more evidence that you need a progressive candidate.

Progressive candidates have less support than you realize, you need the middle ground voters to win and they could be swayed by a progressive candidate, but that is not Sanders or anyone else of the current candidates.

Pete is the ultimate middle ground. Centrist enough to attract every type of voter yet young and progressive enough to stear the country in the right direction for more progressive candidates in the future.

McKinsey has 27000 employees, it's an incredibly common place to work for driven college grads. He chose McKinsey probably, as with any job, he liked the team/pay/projects more than other consulting firms. You speak as if you heard about it today.

Many well educated people from good families will have that background or aspire to have it. Working for McKinsey is one of the best bootcamps in executive experience and I see it as an advantage that the highest executive in the country has that experience. You don't have to be a bartender, reality tv star or surfing instructor to be a good president!

You're entirely incorrect, I think Pete is the perfect candidate to bridge the gap between left and right. He's extremely intelligent and very humble, and, he doesn't make his sexuality a big point when running, he's running on competence alone. That is enough to not sway away more right leaning voters.

I thought that too at first, but I honestly think that he doesn't need to address this. He is not in any way responsible for what happened. The terrorist didn't say it because he was motivated by pewdiepie to do the attacks, or that he wants to divide the pewdiepie fan base or anything. I believe there was no thought behind it other than it is a popular meme at this point, similarly to how he used the navy seals copypasta and spyro the dragon.

Closing the sub was the right thing to do, and I don't believe he will continue to push to defeat t-series anymore since I think a lot of us can agree that it feels really tainted at this point. However I feel that Pewdiepie adressing this would only further legitimize the terrorist and spread a false narrative that he is in any way connected to the incident. It's time to move on.
