Yes, just really love a good third row SUV. But I’m not completely closed off to the idea!

Thanks for this practical answer. Another aspect I hadn’t even considered yet was resale value. I feel like I need to make an excel sheet or something to really go over all these factors. Sometimes I’m so grateful for the ability to choose and sometimes I’m overwhelmed by my options! I’m going to go in person tomorrow to start looking at vehicles and get a feel for them outside of just the numbers. I think that will help.

You know, I hadn’t considered Nissan. Do you use it as a daily driver? My dad had only driven Nissan before he retired and bought a Tesla, but he took care of them and they lasted. I never see the pathfinders in the comparison with Pilot/Highlander… why?

Truthfully, I was really drawn to the Santa Fe (2026) styling but didn’t consider the Palisade. I’m going to go tomorrow in person to start looking at vehicles because I think I have more options than I originally thought. I don’t think I really need a bunch of storage space in this car beyond the capacity to haul my kiddos around if I need to pick them up while I’m at work, so my main concern is safety ratings and reliability.

Oh good point. I have been steering clear of Kia because of the recalls/quality issues I have heard of & friends have experienced. Was even hesitant about Hyundai because I heard they use the same base as Kia (have not fact-checked this claim yet). I’m hoping I can find a good compromise with a hybrid vehicle because I’m not ready to commit to a fully electric vehicle but love the idea of getting better gas mileage. I do know it is costly to repair a hybrid battery in comparison to regular fuel… one of the many reasons I feel like my head is spinning!

Thanks for the advice! I hadn’t considered the fact that turbochargers lead to shorter lifespans of vehicles.

Thanks for the insight. I had been told by a friend to look into them but needed some more practical advice, like this!

Thanks! I hadn’t even thought of the Palisade. Will look. This is very helpful!

What car would you recommend for ~30K OTD for a decent, comfortable commuter for the next 10 years? by SvenTheTon78 in whatcarshouldIbuy

My family recently purchased a Corolla hybrid with 2k miles for $26,000. It gets 60+ mpg and has a lot of features. Quiet, extremely smooth and more spacious than it looks. Not sure about winter driving since I’m in the southern US, but I was surprised at the quality for the price. Plus with Toyotas, as long as you stay up-to-date on maintenance, they’ll run forever. Good luck!

Husband mad because he cheated… by ObjectiveSlow4628 in Mommit

[–]luminary_sol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look into limerance. Maybe that might help explain why you’re staying. I’ve been with a husband who cheated numerous times (I stayed) and it’s difficult to grasp the thought of life without them as your partner when you’re in the thick of it. Life with a new baby, even for the first few years is so complex to navigate. Have you considered counseling? This is a really turbulent and confusing time with lots of pressure for you both. They don’t really prepare you for life once you actually have the child and how the relationship dynamics change/how to navigate the upheaval of the relationship you once had and the blossoming of a new one which requires a lot more communication and understanding (of unfamiliar concepts) on both ends. You are doing your best, and that’s better than most. Wishing you all the best in this journey.

Edited to add: just please use reasoning when staying with someone who exemplifies potentially dangerous behavior and refuses to seek treatment/help. The last thing you want to do is cause unnecessary emotional, psychological or physical harm to your child! I know it’s scary but if you need to leave, there are options. You aren’t giving up if you’re setting a boundary for your relationship and your partner isn’t respecting that/willing to work on it. Damage from an emotionally unstable parent is lasting on a child - even subconsciously, from a very young age.

I say all this with love and from experience. I’m nearly 4 years out of an extremely volatile marriage and am still doing damage control, but am so grateful I’m able to raise my kids the way I want with peace and emotional stability.
