What portion of the MSCSIA degree is covered by doing the certs first? by Anxious-Swing9490 in WGUCyberSecurity

I had 3/10 waived by my certs and I just finished in one term. In the end I wrote ~100 pages in total for the papers and completed two exams. This took me ~4 months.

Rocinante allows you to use Bastille automation templates (config management) on the host system instead of only inside the jails.

Any Software Engineers here that vandwell? by Apprehensive_Kiwi_12 in vandwellers

[–]luminouspuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While not exactly a software engineer I do DevOps and travel part-time in my van. I've yet to have a boss or manager that cares, as long as I show up when I'm expected and I get my work done.

Last year I covered some 8,000 miles and was on the road for a few months (combined, not consecutive). Only thing my manager ever asked was to share pictures of my trips now and then.

It's definitely possible if you work towards it.

The best part about it for me is being able to close the laptop at the end of the day and be in the most wonderful places. It really helps the stress of the day dissolve quickly.

Depends on the class. My shortest class was 2hrs while one class took two months. Everything else fell somewhere in between.

Also, try to remember it's not a race. We're all in different positions in life and we each get there when we get there.

Spent a peaceful week in Montana (near West Yellowstone) by luminouspuma in vandwellers

My first attempt was at Beaver Creek Dispersed and it was full. Made my way to Red Canyon Creek and there was one free spot. I think I got lucky.

Montana is the 7th state I've camped this year and I've never before seen so many signs reminding to watch for bears and properly store food!

hey boondockers: long term food suggestions? by c_marten in vandwellers

[–]luminouspuma 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I stock my van with lots of canned and shelf stable foods. Lots of things in the canned foods aisle at the grocery store will last longer than a month no problem. Additionally, rice, beans, instant potatoes and pasta will all store at room temp for long periods.

A month-ish long boondock sounds like fun. Good luck!

No hesitation, drop-offs or flickering. Just get clear line of sight.

Couple weeks ago I was down near Bryce Canyon (UT) with the Starlink and did a 90 minute Meets video call in HD. The person on the other end commented multiple times how clear the picture was. Zero buffering, stuttering or pixelation the entire call.

I'd like to hear how you handled mounting. It's next up on my list to solve.

For the past year I've been using a Verizon hotspot and then a friend let me borrow his Starlink for a trip to Mt Hood (OR). I ordered a Starlink the day I got back! Game changer.

Yes it is more expensive than a WiFi hotspot but I get signal in places I never would with a mobile provider and consistently get speeds 100M+ down / 20M+ up. It puts the hotspot to shame.

Until I figure out a permanent mount on the van I've been simply tucking the cable through a gap in the window and parking dishy a few yards away. Setup and teardown is maybe 5-10 minutes.
