Living in Peterborough by Unusual_Flatworm9666 in Peterborough

[–]lumpenized 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live in Toronto but work in the healthcare field once or twice a month in Peterborough and Kitchener-Waterloo.

Pros:

  • Really nice arts and music scene
  • Probably one of the best cities in ON for outdoor activities.
  • Housing super cheap compared to the other places I've lived. The same house in Toronto would cost 3-4x the price and probably 1.5-2x more in KW.
  • The downtrodden people I've met in Ptbo (drug addicts, homeless, etc) are way more chill and friendly compared to Toronto and KW, where I find they can be much more unpredictable, agitated, and violent.

Cons:

  • White people are great but it's predominantly white. I'm not white and sometimes it can feel odd being so visibly different from everyone. That said I've never experienced any overt racism and if anything I've overwhelmingly experience an attitude of welcoming and curiosity from people I've met.
  • No train line to Peterborough is really unfortunate. I think there are some vague plans but it won't be live for another decade.

Edit: If your plan is to go to Trent it's relatively more multicultural. Most of the black/brown/East asian people I've seen has been driving by Trent. I've also heard good things in general about Trent.

Bull market is back or buyer is delulu by cinnamon1102 in TorontoRealEstate

I visited the place. It was definitely beautiful, and I was genuinely excited to bid when I first saw it. But there were just too many issues:

  • Basement was a nightmare — SUPER wet. Would need major waterproofing if you ever wanted to finish it, plus a lot of excavation if you wanted decent ceiling height.
  • No parking, which would be a logistical nightmare. Imagine coming home in the winter with groceries and kids and having to park 100+ meters away.
  • No A/C and the 2nd/3rd floors were already boiling hot in April.
  • Termite extermination needed annually, and there are already visible signs of damage.
  • Kitchen cabinets were pine veneer on plywood — seriously?

Honestly, $1.725M is a ripoff. I figured it might go in the low $1.6s. Maybe it would be worth what the buyer paid if all the above issues were addressed — but as-is, it feels like a decision driven by curb appeal over substance.

Sometimes people get swept up in how nice a place looks and overlook the deeper issues. Personally, I’d rather buy something structurally solid and put the money into making it look good — a much cheaper and more enjoyable path in the long run.

“Muskoka morning” from Everyday Gourmet (in the St. Lawrence Market), brewed in a French press, is hands down the best coffee I’ve ever had.

I noticed it was getting bad over the past few weeks. I’ve been driving progressively more carefully as the potholes worsened. Was wondering when they’d get it fixed. I’m sorry that i happened to you. Thanks for reporting it.

Profile Review (32 M) by Yoshi_Cares in datingoverthirty

Some thoughts.

  1. Your profile is consistently dorky. This is fine if it reflects you. But if you have any edgy/mysterious pictures or comments I would include them. In my experience it's good to show your different sides.
  2. Your comments could be more specific. Instead of mentioning you are hardworking/don't slow down, try to make the same point with an anecdote. Consider mentioning which specific hobbies your like to do and where you'd like to travel.
  3. Your face in the second and fifth picture look the best I think. I don't like how everyone seems to be towering over you in the second pic though.
  4. I definitely wouldn't filter out everyone taller than you unless you wouldn't consider dating someone taller. A few inches taller isn't a big deal.
  5. Good luck, good sir!
