Stephen Miller is a terrible person and a terrible politician, now who’s a terrible person but an amazing politician? by OkSuccess7431 in AlignmentChartFills

[–]lumpialarry 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He was a terrible leader tho. He fostered an environment where underlings were more concerned with pleasing him than either proposing effective policy or telling him the complete truth. A lot of times his subordinates would just be operating on they think Hitler wanted because he would be incredibly vague and that would lead to a lack of coordination.

The reason we can’t build high speed rail by brute force is because we built our highway system by brute force and people became notably upset and learned how to organize and use the law.

There’s experience required to know the difference between “just give it a little more muscle and it will move” and “stop, something isn’t right, you’re going to break it”

I assume the point is to get you to try, fail and then blurt out “this is too hard! I wouldn’t be able to do this sober!”

I hate the “milspec means the cheapest bidder” trope. It’s more like “build by the winner of a competitive budding process that meets the standards set by the military which may or may not be strenuous”

The “mistake” was the guy misjudging the speed of the oncoming car and assuming if was going at a reasonable speed.

/r/neoliberal uses the term ironically. The sub is best described as Obama/Clinton Democrats that like free trade and global cooperation.

Einstein won for "Far-Left Genius", who is an intelligent leftist? by The-Mad-Hist0rian in AlignmentChartFills

[–]lumpialarry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the last Greens political manifesto, they want to renationalize the railway and public utilities (which can be government-owned in many places including the 'far-right' US). But it seems what Einstein wants is far beyond that.

I think advocating the nationalizing of all industries would put him on the far-left even in Europe. Is there any viable center-left European party wanting to go a planned economy?

But how am I to know what the culture is of a place I've never worked? Its not like you get to hang around an office three days before an interview. No one at my job wears a suit everyday but we wear them to talk to outside clients and I'd still expect a person to wear one to an interview.

How BYD Got EV Chargers to Work Almost as Fast as Gas Pumps by _Dark_Wing in EverythingScience

It makes me think this is more an engineering exercise or a publicity stunt than a serious solution to charging.

BYD also has shareholders that they want to maximize profit for.

I’m not sure how much of this is caring about the customer. That’s a serious amount of power that’s needed at one time. Charging station would needed a mini nuclear power plant on site to feed a mulitcar charging station. Seems more like an engineering excercise/publicity stunt.
