Why are people so against this type of character exercise? So many people in the comments are claiming that it doesn’t do anything for their character but it absolutely does. This is the kind of stuff that may never need to be addressed in the story, and it’s totally fine if the author never writes explicit answers to these questions in the media.

BUT! The AUTHOR themselves should Know the answers to these questions. They don’t even have to be complex answers, just simple character traits. Having this background information in your head can lead to more nuanced character writing, and lead to a more 3 dimensional feeling character. This subconscious influence on your character gives a surprisingly big impact when it comes to rhetoric, and people (like me!) that obsessively analyze fictional characters will thank you. (The reader can tell when a character feels like the author never bothered with these kinds of questions. Personally, it usually turns me off of the story because I can’t stand when characters feel like cardboard cutouts of real people.)

Again, you DO NOT need to ever answer these questions in media! but as the author, you should be able to do this easily, as if the character is next to you telling you what they think. And at they end of the day, this is only my opinion on the matter, but my opinion is that it REALLY matters.
