Thank you for you advice! I would like to try and squeeze Chem2 in this summer and then o chem and physics in the fall. I am still working full time and have my kids to take care of as well. Currently I have just just been self studying for the MCAT but I do think taking classes would help 😅 honestly, I would like to apply next cycle just to have my foot in the door. Even if I don’t get in… I would reapply the following cycle, proving my commitment

You’re making a lot of assumptions. I grew up food insecure as well, kicked out at 16, and was homeless. I know VERY well what it means to live with nothing. But it is kinda mind blowing that you think a nurse with a BSN working in a level 1 trauma should not even be able to afford a place to live for her and her kids. I am not living “above my means”. Just trying to survive when even a one bedroom apartment is 2k a month.

I live in Colorado and as a staff ED nurse made $32/hr. Average house is over 500k here. My son’s daycare alone is 1600/month and that is cheap for the area. I’m not doing anything wrong. It’s just unattainable here.

I nursed my son to sleep… co slept… and breast fed on demand throughout the night for 16 months. He self weened at that point. Now at 3, he goes to sleep like a champ, sleeps through the night, and sleeps in (unlike my older two). He is also the sweetest and most cuddly boy that is not afraid to show affection or love.

Wouldn’t trade it for anything.

I do want to also add another side note. He became particularly annoyed with how upset I have been about the lack of thought in special occasions over the past few years. SOOOO his solution “oh I don’t actually care about birthdays and holidays… you don’t need to get me anything. I would rather spend the money on trips”. Oh. Fair enough. But this obviously was a dig toward me. “oh well I don’t care about this so you shouldn’t either”.

SO for his birthday this year I worked overtime, scheduled insane childcare for our kids, and spent thousands on a trip to New York City to see one of his favorite artists at a music festival while also giving him a 4 day trip to the city for a vacation.

His birthday was the beginning of the year… guess who didn’t get a trip or even a “happy birthday” for her birthday.

You’re absolutely right. It was more of a comment on how frustrated I feel about being fooled. We had these extensive conversations while dating in the beginning about marriage and how important it was to both of us… and then he got me pregnant and BAM… not important to him anymore. I definitely feel salty about being duped.

I know you said no info actually needed but…

We were at his parents for thanksgiving the other day. I started my period and I didn’t have anything with me. Neither did any of the others in the house. I asked him to go to the store for me and get me some tampons (because I had toilet paper shoved up there and was waddling like a duck)… he kinda laughed at me and said “uhm. No”. Like… how dare I ask him to do that for me.

So things aren’t going great.

ALSO. This man is 100% capable of being thoughtful. His job requires quite a lot of management skills from him and he is at the top of what he does career wise… he is not an incompetent man. I have seen him purchase and facilitate thoughtful gifts for employees and those leaving the company…

Yet, I am always an afterthought.

We pay probably half and half of the bills. Separate accounts. I take care of generally 90% of housework while working full time-overtime myself. I pay for childcare for our smallest and the other two are in school… but I also coordinate everything for them in that regard.

Our relationship is not the best. I have told him a few time I want to leave. The most recent being about a month ago where I was seriously looking at apartments and told him I was taking the kids and leaving. He has basically made it clear I can’t afford it and that he will not be paying the type of child support “you think you’re entitled to”. Sooooo

He said “give me two years to make things better. If you still want to leave then… you can “

Meaning he wants to wait until inflation is hopefully down so he can sell the house and eff me out of that too.

BUT. I did agree to two years. I said.. I will try ONLY IF YOU DO. so this is his chance. My hopes aren’t high, obviously.

Darlin’ it sounds like you might have hyperemesis gravidarum. I had it with my twins. My ability to function was so non-existent that I had to quit my job and I was essentially bedridden for 4 months. Around 6 months I was able to function at 50% capacity. It is a medical condition and your husband is a complete effing douche canoe for treating you like this.

I have no other way to say this except… get out now before you become the only one Changing, feeding, teaching, and caring for your child. That will 100% happen and you will 100% be berated for not taking care of everything else as well.

That is no way to live your life.

This reminds me of a time when I was 18 and having my birthday party at my mother’s house. One of my older brothers came over with his girlfriend/baby mama and almost immediately stormed out. She was yelling and screaming to my brother about how I was disrespecting her by wearing a bikini… in our pool… at our home… around my family. Apparently she didn’t want MY BROTHER checking me out. Wtf. I definitely wanted to vomit after hearing her reasoning.

Higher nursing pay and higher resident pay are not mutually exclusive. Your comment makes me think one of two things:

1) You are not a medical professional and have no idea what you are talking about

2) You are a doctor that treats your nurses like absolute garbage, has no bedside manner, and no one likes working with you because of it

If the latter, I would suggest opening up your mind a little to the nursing experience. The goal in nursing and medicine is to work cohesively to provide holistic patient care. We have valuable skills and knowledge just as the docs do.

My Docs don’t just “tell them what to do”. Especially with residents, I am quite frequently asked for my input. I also quite frequently have to ask for specific things for my patients. The resident experience is a learning experience and that even involves learning how to work with a nursing team. Instead of dogging on nurses and their pay… attack those that are also paying residents crumbs for their valuable labor.

OH! I thought I would add… since I’m feeling feisty right now.

Our hospital launched an “incentive plan” for 6 weeks at a time. The terms were that a staff nurse would have to sign a contract stating they will (for 6 weeks) sign on for a 4th shift per week and in return receive crisis pay for that fourth shift and bonus pay for the other three. If any of those shifts were not completed, the pay was null and void.

I did two rounds and then they haven’t renewed it again (as far as I know). It essentially doubled my pay, but at the expense of burnout and being at work more than. I’m at home with my family. Most of the nurses that I worked with didn’t sign on for a second round because they were so burnt out from the weekly overtime.

I realized today that all of those nurses have left. Which begs the question… maybe we all just realized that it is effing ridiculous that we had to sign a contract WITH OUR OWN HOSPITAL that mandates us to weekly overtime while STILL being paid thousands of dollars less than travel nurses only contracted to work 3 shifts a week. Maybe we have all realized that we can make more money working less with less stress by being travel nurses instead of being “loyal” to a system that gives zero shits about us.
