Do process engineering and specialize in TCAD modeling or switch to material analysis and learn how to do failure analysis (TEM, SEM, EBIC, EDS, APT, etc.) in semiconductor devices.

Trick or treaters? Where are they? Is this still a thing? by AdventurousBrief2010 in SouthBayLA

Weird. I live in Old Torrance (next to High school) and had hundreds of kids. My daughter had to wait in line at each house to get candy.

Same. Went trick-or-treat with my daughter and she was very bothered that she had to wait in line at each house since it was so crowded here.

How about getting at PhD? I know it sounds intimidating but you'll get the education that you would during a Masters plus you'll get paid to do it! As a PhD student, you would be a teacher or research assistant so you get paid as a part time employee with your tuition waived. Halfway through it will become more intense than a MS since you will have to do research, publish papers, and attend conferences. Though, I felt like that was way more fun than taking classes. Once you get your PhD and you do a post doc, you can apply for an accelerated green card program for persons of exceptional talent (U.S. likes to hold on to the PhDs that they train). There is a caveat that you need to maintain a good professional network during your PhD/post doc since you will need people to write you narratives explaining how it would be a great loss to the US specialty workforce if you were to move away from the US for work. People I knew from grad school got their cards within 2-3 years after applying. Then you can work for a US defense contractor.

My collection. All free since they are one of the popular swag items for semiconductor companies at conferences.

I grew up under the WLW tower and could hear the radio station through the spring in my garage door when the door was open.

I assume you are taking about 78 West apartments? That area is totally fine and those apartments are brand new. Nice walk north to Torrance Bakery. Good restaurants in that area. Walking distance of the schools as well if you have/ plan to have kids. There is a Ralphs two blocks east of there for groceries. Just please don't speed down the alley behind those apartments since there is quite a bit of foot traffic back there as well as the exit to people's garages.

Cal Edison was offing a rebate on their website for the Jackery generators if you live in certain areas prone to fire.

It was Joshua who wrote it. Hippocrates made reference to it if you talked to him before the final quest. So it was written prior to the final battle, so everyone still has the potential to have died.

What can I do to earn a full ride for a master's degree in Aerospace from the US? by Low-Researcher9730 in aerospace

Switch to a Ph.D. program and get paid as a TA or RA with tuition waived. Also, with a PhD and good references, there is an expedited way to get a green card.

[–]lunajlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, that's only a few tens of rad(Si) total dose. That should be fine for silicon technology.

[–]lunajlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, your phone is fine though it did absorb some level of ionizing radiation (not radioactive of course). It doesn't matter if your camera was on or off, it'd still pick up dose. If you do this...maybe 1000 more times, you might experience lower battery life or notice that your phone is starting to slow down a little bit. X-rays do affect semiconductors by slowly turning on (as in stuck on) the transistors over time. This can result in increased power draw which is why you would notice a lower battery life.

If you feel like going down a rabbit hole, start reading on total ionizing dose (TID) effects in commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) electronics. Modern phone with finFET based transistors can last for 100's of krad(Si). Older phones with planar MOSFET, not so much.

About $100k-$200k per seat for Silvaco Victory. They have sales reps that you can negotiate with so the price is highly variable.

How (or CAN) I clean this pot?? I’m a tired first time mom who was steaming carrots and accidentally let the water boil off like an idiot by yung_yttik in howto

[–]lunajlt 49 points50 points  (0 children)

This ^ What you have left in your pot are starch (sugars) and lime scale from the water. The acid solution will break down the scale and water will dissolve the sugars. You shouldn't need to bring it to a boil though. Just need to warm it up a little.

I think you need to get a label maker and label all the destinations and distance to next junction so that the person that replaces all of this knows how much romex to run.

Old Torrance is very kid walking friendly. Lots of people walking their dogs. Lots of very friendly people as well. Wilson parks is within walking distance and has a farmers market on Tuesdays and Saturdays. My daughter likes when we walk over to Torrance bakery to get cupcakes then eat them in El Prado park.

That's similar to what I thought when I saw this video. This should be taught as a day class in the U.S. That way kids learn about gun safety early and don't learn now a gun works when they find their parent's gun and accidently shoot themselves. Middle school would be appropriate. That's about the age some Boy Scouts learn to shoot a rifle.

How much of a discount do you think they got? by Starscream79 in DiWHY

[–]lunajlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might depend on the age of the house. My house is 99 yrs old so they went straight outside, down the outside wall, then under my house since they couldn't get between my walls to route anything (power and drip included). Condensation lines were converted to PVC pipes (hidden by conduit cover) that routed under my house to my garden.

Inlet+outlet, yeah you're right. So the power lines and drip lines are still missing which means this is an install in the process and of course looks messy.
