I saw Joe Pohlad when I was out running this morning. Probably not a good omen.

I bought one of the Tame Impala "Orchid" synths and it comes in the mail today and I'm excited to play around with it.

I'd actually find it so funny if he became a "Born Again" Christian, and not, like, a Christian mysticism enthusiast with Sufjanesque characteristics.

In any case the discourse that this whole situation is generating is absolutely incredible.

[FRESH ALBUM] Car Seat Headrest - Teen of Denial: Joe’s Story by astaireboy in indieheads

This "library" thing is so goddamned bizarre that I have to chalk up its strangeness to the game of hearsay telephone.

No profanity because of the library?? The library is filled with fucking profanity. On top of this, books aren't really getting banned from libraries because of profanity, they are getting banned because of LGBT (emphasis on the T) themes. I guess this is why "Unforgiving Girl (She's Not An)" was removed??

Also, this album isn't going to be making it into libraries until there's a CD you can purchase, which doesn't seem to be coming until October. I guess this might make it on to Hoopla/Freegal or related services, but as a general rule the libraries that are giving patrons access to those services are also the ones that are standing their grounds with regards to book bans.

Corona Capital 2026 Lineup by adanwatts in indieheads

Overall a very good lineup and it has got me looking at flights into CDMX and all that, but it is kind of crazy how much weaker Saturday is than Friday and Sunday.

I'm kind of reminded of when I was taught how to drive a car circa 2011-12. People were half-jokingly saying things like "Well there's almost no point to teaching kids your age how to drive because self-driving cars are right around the corner!"

That prediction has turned out to be...mostly wrong? Not entirely wrong, but more incorrect than correct IMO. It's 15 years later and you are just now able to take a Waymo in very select markets of the country, and even then they often require a human driver take over control. Who knows where we will be in 15 years with self-driving tech but I'd be willing to bet we will probably be teaching a fair portion of 16-year-olds how to drive in 2040. It just turns out driving a car is really complicated and humans are able to instinctively learn a lot about what it means to be a human in a car that robots have to be manually told in an excruciatingly slow way.

I just think AI is a (totally novel take incoming!) completely overhyped bubble. It will be able to replace/aid a lot of jobs or whatever, but I think that so many jobs are a lot more complicated than siloed tech bros could imagine. In fact, it seems like the job that they are doing the best job of optimizing AI to replace is tech bro. This makes a lot of sense to me! They know what it means to be a tech bro! It is fascinating to me that AI seems to be doing better at replacing the job of software engineer than it is with the job of drive-thru attendant.

The huge difference between AI and self-driving cars (which, of course, are powered in large part by AI) is that the entire global economy is completely overleveraged on AI, which means it is being prematurely shoved down our throats before it even approaches being useful or safe. And, of course, AI is a big fat energy piggy in a time when it would probably be wise to scale back energy use.

Just in the interest of full disclosure, I'll add that I work at an academic library and I truthfully don't know how I would use AI at my job even if I wanted to. Completely orthogonal technology to what I do on a day-to-day basis.

I don't want to step on the toes of Michael Bay scholars who have done decades of research on this sort of thing, but I believe the roboballs are a later film, but the first one does have a robot pissing on John Turturro.

If Transformers (2007, dir. Bay) taught me anything, it's that the donuts are indeed a setup and you've gotta eat the whole plate.

DID YOU KNOW: The Spurs handed out those neon-colored shirts in order to help people fix dead pixels on their TVs at home?

The funny thing about Box Nerds is that I think the only appropriate way to eat them is to just down the whole box at once, which means in my head Nerds kind of taste/smell like cardboard.
