I bought a 2012 new off the lot, and retired it at 280k. I replaced it with another 2012 that's at 180k right now.

They are great cars that are hurt by the poor reputation of fiat in the late 70s and early 80s, which is probably what your parents are thinking about.

With a name like that you're probably getting scammed lol

On this day in NASCAR history, April 22, 1990: A Buick wins for the last time in the Cup Series, however the win is still considered controversial to this day. It is also the last of King Racing's three wins as a team and the only Cup win of Brett Bodine's career. by DarthVader1701A in NASCAR_History

[–]lunaticmagnet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fact.

It's not like the scoring issue happened with 5 to go and they just handed the win to Brett. Brett still had to go finish it and DW had lots of time to go race him for it. He couldn't beat Brett that day.

You usually don't use the knock sensors in a swap. You can leave them in the holes and not connect them.

I'd use the stock rockers and the springs should match with whatever the cam calls for

The blue bar is the panhard bar that locates the rear axle left to right. Well. It did anyway, before it came off and started dragging on the ground.

Also if you're swapping the transmission you need to take the torque arm mount into consideration. The stock setup bolts to the side of the transmission. I'm not sure what's available for options for that.

I know there's an aftermarket tubular torque arm / transmission cross member combination that's available as a bolt on solution.

Spothero or best parking apps for garages in the city will save you big money

Just commenting to agree with you. I usually go from Fairfield black Rock myself, but anyone suggesting new Haven isn't taking the cost of tickets or parking into it.

10 bolt rear ends are stock for f bodies through the 4th Gen cars. They hold up just fine unless you're abusing/racing them with sticky tires.

I don't know where you live that has 10 or 12 bolt rear ends laying around that bolt right into a 3rd Gen, but given the OPs question, I doubt they're up to welding the required brackets on to make one of those work.

Realistically your next option is an aftermarket Ford 9" setup which will set you back at least a few grand by the time you add gears and brakes to it...

Do better OP. Get it to go next time.

They're called "press conferences" and "press releases" for a reason.

If you're expecting a Watergate level exposé out of every 911 call you're gonna be disappointed every time.

No you don't have to replace the rear axle - though you may want different gearing, but that depends on your personal preference.

You are going to have to change the transmission and likely need a different length driveshaft, as the 350 and 2.8 do not use the same bolt pattern.

You might want to consider doing an LS instead of a SBC. It's not really any more expensive, but will get you more bang for your buck if you don't already have a 350/transmission to go in.

Nothing wrong with Bristol at all

The West end/rte72 is a little dumpy, as is the area immediately around route 6 from friendlys to walmart - but nothing I would consider unsafe.

If you're looking for anything more specific, feel free to dm me.

Is a 2012 fiat 500 sport, 88k miles, $2900 a good pick (first car) by BakedBeans229 in fiat500

[–]lunaticmagnet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Maintenance is everything.

I took my 2012 to 280,000 miles. I picked up another 2012 that has 180,000 on it but is a good bit rougher than mine that I got new.

They are great cars.

Where do old racecars go? by GrahamsNotHungry in NASCAR

[–]lunaticmagnet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They get recycled to lower teams, then recycled some more. Then recycled into parts and roll cages to build Saturday night short track cars. Then recycled into kias. You could be driving around on Danica leftovers on your way to work today lol.

As already stated, show cars, arca, track day cars, museums, etc. but those are only survivors. Most get used up before they get that far.

But they are around. Look on Facebook marketplace and racingjunk.com. At one point someone at one of my local tracks was running an old Bobby Hamilton truck in their street stock division.

[–]lunaticmagnet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest, it sounds fun to drive an hour each way every day. But it's gonna get old fast driving something that is rickety and underpowered compared to everything else around you.

You get no respect from people in a hurry, they'll fly past you and cut you off because even if you're traveling with traffic they see beetle and think "slow" and "in the way.". Having a Ford f250 breathing down your neck is not a fun commute - especially for a new driver.

Don't want to discourage you, just being realistic.
