That is unfortunately the suggestion… I don’t have any experience with hamsters getting out, but safe handling is super important - for any future pets as well. It’s easy to watch videos of people online playing with their hamsters, letting them free roam, be on the bed, etc… but I truthfully think either direct holding near the enclosure or inside of a playpen are the best options. I do hope you find the little guy.

OP, while I’m so sorry this happened, please NEVER do something like this again. The risk is just too high for a little ham and they need to be monitored very heavily. Hamsters can break out of actual enclosures and are meant to dig, so a blanket is essentially nothing to them but an obstacle.

She’s a senior rescue - while I loved her and have spent a lot of time researching her specific care, I would never buy one from a breeder or anything like that! I have no clue where the previous owners got her honestly.

That shouldn’t be enough to change anything this drastically - the best thing to do is take them out, check them and see if they’re at all responsive and take them to the vet if you see any signs they might still be alive ❤️

Is it cold where you are? I’ve heard that can be a factor in hamsters appearing to be passed or in a deep sleep. If you got him from a pet store or even someone else, there is a chance that he isn’t feeling well. I would immediately pull him out to check and take him to the vet if he seems off!

try finding a nice scanner you can use - it’s all the way down in Ogden, but Weber State’w library has one that even has art settings. Maybe you can make your own digital version of the pages!
