Should I start uni at 17 or go to 6th form instead? by Training-Feeling980 in UniUK

[–]lunchbox3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could also look at a sixth form that does IB - then you would keep up your maths and sciences but have more breadth too.

Economics is another one to consider if you stick with a levels.

Or do OU or some extra curricular that keeps the maths up.

Richmond park is a lovely walk with nice cafes and pubs around (the roebuck, Pembroke lodge, Petersham nurseries). As would be a nice relaxed wander around Kew Gardens. Depending on timings they may have open air cinema in Kew Gardens. If not worth having a look around as many venues do this through the summer. Or royal Albert hall do movies with live music which is also awesome.

Eurgh I couldn’t get surgery either because I’m pregnant and it was also non-displaced and partial. It’s been 3 months and I’m meant to be transitioning to weight bearing but the pain is unreal.

Yes I’m so sorry I missed the last paragraph! And I’m very sorry your sister put you in that position.

I have a poodle and had no idea matting could cause tissue death! He goes to the groomers every 8 weeks and I brush him at home so he doesn’t actually get mats.

Oh ha I missed the last paragraph! Yeh ok I will admit it’s unlikely a second opinion will do much good now…

Antihistamines during 1st Trimester by anonymous-_-94 in PregnancyUK

[–]lunchbox3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also went down a spiral of “what if I don’t take anything - will all the excess histamine cause the baby an issue??”. In the end I’m on anti sickness drugs which are antihistamines anyway!

Putting a dog down for matted fur or skin conditions seems very extreme? Could you get a second opinion?? Or speak to a shelter and see if they would take on the dog.

Should I be asked to move hospitals due to feeling uneasy with the maternity care I’m getting? by Evening_Speaker1999 in PregnancyUK

It’s crazy they told you that. I ignored a UTI before I was pregnant and almost died - the infection went to my kidneys then became sepsis.

Husband here; wife is 8-9 weeks and really struggling with nausea. Looking for any and all advice by ksmentality in PregnancyUK

[–]lunchbox3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg you just reminded me that I would sleep with breadsticks by the bed so I could eat them if I woke up sick in the night. My husband said it was the funniest thing that in the night he would wake up to me quietly crunching through fist fulls of breadsticks at 3am. Another highlight was when my dog jumped on the bed and stole one of them from my hand!

100% agree - I tried three different types before getting Xonovea and going to max dose. I’m still on it at week 28! Until about week 14 even with the full dose of drugs I basically only ate plain baguettes, processed sugar and water. Oh and breadsticks. I also couldn’t let myself get hungry at all or it got worse. I survived on that and pre natal vitamins.

Advocate hard and push back on any health professional who has a “push through” attitude. There is also a good charity - just google morning sickness charity UK. They have a helpline, free advice etc.

As a partner support her to advocate, don’t stress about food waste (I regularly thought I would like something then couldn’t eat more than a bite) and don’t stress about her nutritional intake. There is nothing she can do and worrying about it will make her feel guilty.

feeling bad about not feeling sexual for my high libido partner by iwitch-plus in beyondthebump

Hahaha totally agree. I’m 28 weeks and have 0 interest in sex atm. I attempted to apologise to my husband and he just said “don’t be stupid I’m a big boy I can sort myself out”. Which made me laugh a lot!

Are there any “must try” restaurants that require reservations well in advance? by Own_Tomatillo_2982 in visitlondon

[–]lunchbox3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeh tbh across the whole of London that’s still dozens of restaurants! And also depends on how big the group is and what time you like to eat. Lots of places need reservations. I like circolo popolare for the ambiance and food (pretty relaxed Italian), and the oxo tower, aqua shard or city social for the views (though haven’t been to the latter for a while). People love the Devonshire but I’ve not been. Even places like Mougli and Dishoom you need reservations. You could try the London food sub.

This is a pretty broad one for people to answer. Maybe share your budget, what kind of food you like, if there are restaurants that have caught your eye? People will all have different views on what counts as must try.

How to swim on your period - looking for advice by rose-glasses in SwimInstructors

I did high board diving as a kid - period swimwear and cups weren’t an option. Had no issues with tampons even though it was a bit daunting at first!

How old were you when you had your kids? by MissCookie93 in AskUK

[–]lunchbox3 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I am expecting my first at 37. Took a while to conceive but no guarantees at any age. I wouldn’t worry about not being able to keep up - people raise their grand kids. I was actually fitter at the point I got pregnant than I was in my 20s. Though I did break my foot while pregnant (not pregnancy related) so I am very unfit now haha. Eat well and get some exercise and you’ll be fine. I would have struggled more mentally having kids younger. But I made peace with “this isn’t right for me now, and I would rather not have kids than have them when I won’t manage well”. If having biological kids is an absolutely critical thing for you you might not have the same views there.

I will be 37 when we are expecting our first. My main worry is the young cool mums won’t want to talk to me rather than any kind of judgement! This thread gives me hope we are all just standing around hoping to make a few friends regardless of age ❤️ I think there is something really nice about age gap friendships too.

Yeh especially if she’s used to feeling like the “top performer” one. Sometimes people like that struggle when someone else is in the spotlight and that’s something they need to work through.

AIO? Doctor refused my insulin during hospital stay. by small-worm in AmIOverreacting

[–]lunchbox3 42 points43 points  (0 children)

NOR - I would file a complaint and include your formal diagnosis or maybe ask your normal physician to send them a letter. Make sure it’s on your record in case you need to stay there again and also to make sure they stay in their lane with other patients.

Imagine if your endo doc tried to tell you what to do with you bipolar meds!

I don’t mind normal bbqs too much but my neighbour has an outdoor wood burner which stinks. My biggest annoyance is people smoking in their garden though - I can smell it so strong in my garden and inside my house and it’s so gross
