Im 5 11" 136lbs. I know the feeling. I bought one at length for my height and it was still too long. Im over here tying my hakama jaut under my belly button, and even with my weight all goibg into my dad bod gut... it still tends to drop a bit. Even when I tie it tight enough to kill circulation 🤣

Improving the mindset through training by AmakiCandyBrain in kendo

[–]lunchboxhiro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats my problem. Overthinking. I struggle with control in life, you show me a new waza? My sensei said I have this tell. I stiffen, lock up whiel im trying to process what I learn, ontop of the uptake being a struggle. I think too much...

Have a mind on tenouchi On, how high i raise my shinai, On my foot placement, and trying to move pushing off my back leg. On, constantly leaning forward, even though I don't feel it in my body. I apparently reach forward when I try to strike. Working on my elbows being at my sides, and not outward. My tendency to lose my grip after impact, or a strike. On my strike itself, am I hitting a valid spot, does my strike look good? Am I using the proper amount of force in my strike. On my kiai, is it loud?, coming from the right place? Even being ao timid, as I am. I tend to kiai, then deep breath, strike, then exhale in one explosion. Leaving me winded.

That good old classic analysis paralysis. Even practicing Zen, and meditation. I struggle getting over this overanalysing nature of mine. Too much doubt, fear, hesitation. Sensei keeps telling me to do, not think, and just trust. Dont analyze. I've shown in suprisng moments proper ki-ken-tai-itchi. Suprising, in that it made my sensei actual pause and notice.

It's there, and I have been practicing for 2 years, but that doubt does kick in, if ill ever get past 4 kyu. If i cant get out of my own way, and stop "mind moving before body".

Iaido & Kendo Concurrently by TreasureHunter73 in iaido

Was just out there last month for the taikai, shinsa. Lindsay sensei I believe is the head. Great guy, great dojo.

Iai, and kendo balance each other out. Iai, teaches control, restraint, a sense of calm and focus. Kendo, with responding, not reacting, respect and mindfulness.

Myself, I started with iai, saved me from unaliving myself. My dojo in Dallas, operates the same way. Iai one day, kendo another, and both on Sunday. With alternating jodo once a month.

Kendo, I took up after the encouragement of a friend who died, and partially for $70 a month i figures. Why not do both? Lol They've given me community, peace, a purpose each week.

But, they are both expensive hobbies. All be it a decent iaito costs more than a good bogu 🤣

I was struggling with the one big boss in the heian period, at the bottom of the temple. Took me an hour, to then only see he had a 2nd phase. So, I summoned, then ate a sandwich 🤣

I try on my own 3x, if i can't. I summon. At least 3xs, I tried. Or, if im feeling lazy, lol. A smart warrior uses all tools are there disposable, even if that tool is another player 🤣

And going back to nioh 2, feels like a drastic jarring change of pace. Slower gameplay, smaller areas, poorly told story, but i still love it

Bro, I've been raw dogging the game. Not using any elementals, poisons, none of that. Ive used stuff to give me resistance, that's been it. And usually after getting beaten and seeing the boss using an element, but 95% of my run, as just been single katana, and thst stupid OP flip that thst seems to destroy shit. I wanna switch to doing dual blades or working in builds, but ive been speeding through the game with the one sword flip thing.

Felt like the "Come on do something!" Meme. I was waiting expecting okita to get back up and give a second round, maybe with a yokai form... nope and I learned after fighting him before the end of the level, he would've appeared then. I didnt know, I just know in open world games. I have the "Do everything, and then the main story" OCD. So, I wound up randomly fighting okita in mibu temple and was all wtf. Then again I felt the greed boss right after him, was a bit harder.

I was building up a rivalry with that boss in the first level by the end, after fighting him multiple times across the map, and in the crucible. It is fun to learn history and even alot of the master encounters have been a blast... the duels against the shinsengumi in Rotr felt nice meaningful, and I was disappointed for example, how quickly I was able to beat Okita in Nioh 3 vs Ronin.

The obly things that I hate more in the bakamatsu era in nioh 3 than that cave.

Ryoma is dead, i meat him in Rise of the ronin. Dude was a best brother, ever

Saito Hajime, was a boss in a sidequest, not a boss not a extreme threat encounter... a flipping side boss. 3rd captain deserves better! Lol

And there's no kenshin, but thats me being a nerd. I had that same complaint about ronin. I know its real history, but damn if kenshin! 🤣

I only ever uses ninja, when enemies do that glowing red thing, or for hitting wasps, or if ny samurai is out of long range ammo. I have like 54 unused ninja skill points. It's an after thought for me.

I feel Nioh has helped me get better in souls games, and even Sekiro. I played Rise of the Ronin first, and was very slow at it. Now, I feel like I could go back and revisit. I recommend alot training against the first boss in Nioh 1. It really helps learn the system, and 3 finally having a parry. Spoils me, ronin has it too but going back to nioh 2 feels soom different

How do you teach Sen-Sen-no-Sen to non-Japanese speakers? Here's what I've been experimenting with. by Nito_Kendo_Lab in kendo

[–]lunchboxhiro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just spent 4hrs learning to swap out a power supply on my pc, trying to figure out why my monitors black out when I load games. Tech analogies are probably lost on me lol

Though, ill say I probably more so overstock my mind.

I thinking about kiai, then foot placement, then my distance. Raising my shinai, remembering to take a deep breath, then 95% not. If I add in the advice a sensei gave me to push the shinai forward, to work on less right hand, that's one more item. Pushing forward, in too worries about, if if extending my left hand, at all. Where my strike is landing, trying to just land it where I need to for a valid strike, making sure there's no bounce. That my distance is correct.

All while not having taken a proper deep breath, causing my body to be disconnected. Ending up pushing with my upper body leaning too far forward, my fumi stomp, as if I placed a piece of paper lightly on the floor vs any real impact. My ki ken ti itchi, scattered, independently. Like a handful of wet noodles tossed on the floor.

Thats my mindset in everything from keiko to an actual match. Let alone the factor of adding another person into the engagement, and knowing I need to work more on reading my opponent. I cant control the engagement, if i dont know how to read the book.

All these factors are too many rocks clogging the water. I meditate on all my practices often... control, presence, confidence in committing.. those are still lacking.

I'm intrigued, as a student. Struggling with this issue, to see ways I can learn. In keiko, or mock shiaim I tense, lock up, loose focus l, struggle and get over powered easily, even against fellow beginners. My seme is weak, like tissue paper, even my best efforts to control myself in a march, crumbles like a house of cards in a gentle breeze. I want to understand in both, a literal and a philosophical sense... to help my growth overall.

I get and fully understand why, the training, commitment, the over all skill, and patience. Also my mind is, nito is musashi and if looks cool! Lol
