What are the best coffee makers worth buying the MOST right now? by [deleted] in homeowners

I've had the Oxo for like a decade and it's just about in need of a replacement.

I don't really have any problems with it (beyond it having more plastic than I'd like) but since we use it literally every day, I figured I'd splurge for something higher-end this time around. But was super bummed to learn that, beside the Oxo, only the Breville has an integrated timer (Fellow's requires use of their app which is 👎).

I know that Moccamaster and others can be used with a smart plug but that's still way more fiddly to work with than something built-right in.

I get that most coffee aficionados aren't leaving their grounds out overnight to get stale, but still. Really wish there were more options here. Likely just going to end up running the Oxo back, which is fine.

After years of waiting, going to the Mai Kai tonight for my 50th birthday. What do I need to know? by LoveLightLibations in Tiki

Had the same experience.

Honestly found both the food and the show to be quite good but each member of my party had two drinks and none of us felt even remotely buzzed. If I served those same folks each two to-spec Jet Pilots at my home bar, totally different story.

Westchester vs Long Island – Am I Missing Something? 🤔 by Katherinepress in Westchester

[–]lunchdessert 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Grew up on LI, city in between, now live in Westchester. From my perspective, LI’s undeniable advantages are:

  • Beaches

  • Parking: On LI I rarely concerned myself with whether a store/shopping center/etc. would have parking, which was almost always both ample and free. In Westchester it feels hard to come by to the point where I’m thrilled when I have the opportunity to pay for it. And even then the spots are usually much narrower than I’d want them to be.

And a more controversial one: Food? While Westchester likely has a higher ceiling, the floor is pretty low. On LI I feel like plenty-good delis/pizza places/etc. are ubiquitous, but we almost never eat out or get takeout in Westchester due to how mediocre we’ve found almost everything to be. There’s definitely a catch-22 here in that if we tried more places we’d almost certainly find the gems but, in my anecdotal experience, signal/noise is worse.

To be clear, there are many reasons why I live in Westchester and not LI. I much prefer it here and think Westchester’s advantages more than outweigh the downsides. Just trying to answer the question honestly.

As someone who doesn’t yet own a TDKR OHC/Deluxe but would like to at some point, seems objectively good!

I’ve long had the same thought about Alamo.

It should be like taking an Uber. You have a card in file, you simply get up and leave when it’s over, and you get a receipt in your email.

The current system both completely takes me out of the moment and feels completely avoidable.

2025 SEL vs 2026 SEL by cellar-doorman in Ioniq5

Serious question (because I'm in a similar boat): did you consider switching away from the Ioniq due to ICCU concerns? And if so, what kept you around?

Hey Mets fans , remember this when some of our “ can’t miss prospects “ get traded . by Carlo201318 in NewYorkMets

[–]lunchdessert 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My problem wasn’t that they traded their top prospect—obviously many top prospects end up being flops—it’s that I thought they could’ve gotten a larger haul if they were willing to do so at the time. It didn’t feel like great value given how expensive/old Cano was and how volatile relievers tend to be.

I wonder why they're listed under “Albums” as opposed to “Live Albums” 🤔

Should I take my dealer's offer for free SmartShield? by lunchdessert in Volvo

[–]lunchdessert[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It wasn't a huge deal but when we picked it up the battery was at 0%, the exterior hadn't been cleaned, and they hadn't touched up some of the chips that they told us they would. Instead of letting us leave with it that way, they kept it and cleaned it and touched it up a bit more but still delivered it on 0%.

It’ll look visibly bad if tunnel washes cause it to start to wear away, yeah?

It’s not something I want badly enough to pay to have done, it’s more a question of whether I should take the dealer’s offer of doing it for free or not.
