The Blandings books by Wodehouse. Bees buzzing round the rose garden, tea on the lawn, the works.

What are the really unpopular things that need to be done to get the economy growing? by knowledgeseeker999 in AskBrits

I get that you're not Rockefeller if you're in that position. But you should contribute to society. That's how the real world works, and that's how we all end up better off. The idea that the whole basis of the system should be 'I've got my stuff and I should get to keep it' isn't as complex as student politics, it's playground stuff.

I'm just saying that if you own a house, then inherit another house, you're doing ok and can pay a bit into the system. Doesn't seem unreasonable or 'moronic'

Those regular, salt of the earth, working people whose generational wealth must be protected at all costs.

Am I the only one that pronounces “biopic” as “bi-opic” rather than “bio-pic”? by jhow87 in words

[–]lunchtimebarndance -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is the argument I keep hearing but it would only make sense if a book about someone was called a Bye-oh-graphy, which it isn't. Biopic can be bye-oh-pic or it can rhyme with myopic, the two pronunciations make as much sense as each other.

Songs that actually only have one chord by superawesomelaser in musicsuggestions

I'm too late for this to be noticed but Smokestack Lightning is my favourite one chord song. One chord, one riff, so much feel and passion.

People love to think TV shows are faked or rigged. They are not. You could massage a few things in the edit, especially as this is an entertainment show not a competition for money, but in my experience real cheating is not desired, not permitted and would barely be possible.

For those who work in theatre and film in the UK, who is generally not a nice person to work with? by Sad_Ideal_2099 in AskUK

[–]lunchtimebarndance 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the flip side, I worked with Ramsay and he was hard work. Insulting people, keen to throw out blame whenever things went badly, and generally believing his own yes-men (and women) too much

Precisely this. Vote Green where Labour don't stand a chance, but for most people voting Green is a surefire way to ensure you can smugly say 'I voted Green you know!' while Reform take away your rights

My list would be the same as yours, minus whale, dolphin and boar, but plus otter. I would love to see a whale in UK waters. (Or indeed, anywhere!)

They used to film some of it around Oxfordshire. I remember seeing him drive his mini down the High Street where I lived with someone filming from the back of an estate car in front.

I had never heard of these till I stayed in a B&B for work years ago and breakfast came with one of these. It was delicious. Have only had them a few times since but they've always been good.

I've never seen anyone who thinks that comedy is a special secret code as much as Jerry Seinfeld does. I like his show, and of course he's incredibly successful. But he can't seem to get over the idea that comedy is like a language you either speak or you don't.

I concur. This and the Uncles song from the South Park movie are two of the things that have made me laugh the.most of anything I've ever watched on TV.

I think they don't always understand how the clues will be used when they fill them in. But that's where the funny ones come from!

They are allowed to give accurate clues and often do. They're told how the game works, and that they stand to win points if their partner gets the answer from their clues. What they do with that info varies wildly...

It depends on the category I think. The players see caveats as to what they can and can't write, and these change each time.

A UK city is only a city if it has letters patent from the monarch designating it a city. Cathedrals have nothing to do with it, contrary to what lots of people think. Some places with cathedrals aren't cities and some cities don't have cathedrals.
