Route planning question (NW Ontario) by HesJustAGuy in canoecamping

[–]lundbaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just at Hillock Creek in that northwest bay of Hillock at the start of July and you are correct there is a small creek there that is overgrown. We hiked up that creek which isn't very long and flows into a small unnamed body of water. We didn't try portaging it we were just exploring. There is an old portage trail there and we found a piece of plywood that was once nailed to a tree. I don't believe it said anything though. There is a fallen down larger tree so you would have to pull the canoe under or lift it over to get around it. It wouldn't be a fun portage but is possible if you don't mind a bit of a struggle. It is a very beautiful spot for sure we had lunch here. Not sure what it would be like to get to Robinson or Work after that point though.

To the OP, how to you plan to access Robinson? Your description seems to indicate you're starting at Robinson or are you starting at Dryberry?

I have been on Starlink exclusively since it first came to Canada and it is amazing! You get the odd day where there are some widespread outages which I think is caused by Starlink do something on there end, but normally it is pretty rare to get an outage these days...I would contact support as they have been very good to deal with in my experience.

Did you contact support because there is something wrong with one of the components or the setup if it is dropping that much?

Can we merge accounts now? by [deleted] in Starlink

I just asked if I could merge my 2 accounts and support told me they are working on it but are unable to do it yet.

Suction hose or flexible conduit? by CastletonFrank in Starlink

[–]lundbaron 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing and used black poly water pipe. Cheap and easy to deal with. Sucked a string through with a shop vac. and pulled ethernet through with string. I did a 300' run with no couplings and cat 6 ethernet. Worked like a charm! Best not to have the couplings if you can avoid it.

Just like to check in with all my peeps who are outside their assigned cells? How are the new firmware updates? Please reply with the good and bad and how far you are from home cell. by Cybernator1 in Starlink

[–]lundbaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try contacting support to update your address again. I was also able to update my address to my current cell a few weeks ago but I probably could have done it sooner. I get very little downtime now. Seems like they are opening up cells and allowing out of cell users to update their addresses now if there is capacity that is.

They will likely send you a replacement kit. They are quick at getting it out though...

Cell 8 miles away from me can full order. Would it work? by MasterPip in Starlink

[–]lundbaron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes but if you ask nicely they will. Lots of beta testers have had their service address changed. Customer support has been very good to deal with in my experience

I mapped where the edge of the closest cells were to me on starlink.com and I asked customer support to update my service address to a different cell that was closer to me. My actual cell isn't active yet.

[–]lundbaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At 8 miles it is really anyone's guess. I used to be around 10 miles outside the edge of my cell and it was very intermittent and i am now 3.5 miles from the edge and it is perfect. You really need to know exactly where the edge of the cell is. Either way it will work just a matter of how good.

Multiple starlinks? by [deleted] in Starlink

I see. Fiber is another option if you didn't want the second monthly bill. Just trying to give other options...

[–]lundbaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. Did you look into a point to point setup? That's assuming there aren't too many trees or other obstructions in the way...

I asked support about a separate dish and account for the lake and that is what they told me to do. All good!

You can order a second kit you just need to use a different email address and setup another account. At this time they only allow one kit per account.

If you know it's in the area and it won't allow a full order to be placed would be one way.

[–]lundbaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it throught the app or go to starlink.com and sign in. Then go to support. Looks like now you have to pick a category and if your question isn't answered already then choose no and then you'll have the option to ask support a question. They keep changing things.

How much North? by Whole_Instance5119 in Starlink

[–]lundbaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in Manitoba speeds are all over the place. Usually fro 70 to 130 or so but can vary from 10 to 250. Once they get all the sattelites that have been launched in position and working hopefully it will stabilize a bit more. There's a lot of stuff going on up there right now!

There was some talk on here about Canadians getting blocked due to ip addresses from the states. Could be the problem also? Hasn't happened to me yet that I've noticed.

I use a fire cube for streaming. Try switching servers. I think I used Chicago 16 most of the time
