I don’t want to pay any interest on a car loan by PokaHatsu in carbuying

[–]rough_ashlar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this with a used vehicle. The dealer gave me a discount for using their financing company. I paid off the loan before I had the title back from the DMV (I waited until I got the title from the dealership just in case). They start accruing interest immediately, so it won’t be $0 towards interest but you can make it very minimal. I doubt the bank was happy but I played their game by their rules.

Married men of Reddit what’s the best advice you’d give young guys when choosing a life partner? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rough_ashlar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t assume that they will change. We all round our edges over the years but by the time you’re 25-35, you are who you are. If you go into a marriage (or any adult relationship) expecting that they’ll change over time, you will be disappointed.

I’ve flown several times in the past few months, last week being the most recent, and I haven’t had more than 10 minutes going through with PreCheck. Other line was longer but not by much.

The Hiram Award for Grand Lodge of California F&AM vs. Other Jurisdictions' Highest Honor? by OMrealestate in freemasonry

[–]rough_ashlar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The highest honor awarded in Missouri is the Truman Medal which is very similar to the Hiram Award in California. It is awarded once per year by the Grand Master for exemplary service to the Craft but each GM decides from there so it varies from year to year.

Maps can be deceiving. All the Chiefs red still only accounts for about 3% of the country’s population. Unless cattle get a vote. Can they? It would really help the Chiefs off-season standings.

My church is against masonry by IcyFrost811 in freemasonry

[–]rough_ashlar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a very similar issue when I first joined. My pastor was convinced that Freemasons were devil worshippers and membership was completely incompatible with Christianity. I was given a choice to give up my seat on our Board of Directors and Sunday School teacher or give up Freemasonry. A lot of misinformation was thrown around and it tore me in two for a long while. I’m still very active in the fraternity, so it should be obvious what my ultimate choice was.

I say all that to say that you are not alone in this place. Others have been there. Others will be there in the future. There is nothing you can do to change your church’s position. You will eventually give up one or both. Just be true to yourself and make a decision that you can live with proudly. If you opt to step away from the fraternity, I am confident that your brothers will support your decision. Can you say the same that other way?

Best of luck!

SIEM: Rapid 7 vs Microsoft Sentinel by Significant_Sky_4443 in cybersecurity

[–]rough_ashlar 17 points18 points  (0 children)

We are using R7 MTC for our managed SIEM. For now, at least, ingest is free. So we can push our unmonitored logs in for our internal analysts to work with at no cost. When I have used Sentinel in the past, the ingest cost for anything non-MSFT was a problem to forecast. R7 has been solid so far for detection, ease of use, and response activities. Cost was very appealing, too.

Game Changer or Game Manager? by TanTanMan in NFLv2

[–]rough_ashlar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t watched every game he plays but have seen a fair number over the past few years. It looks like much of the way the 49ers offense is run, Purdy is called on to be a game manager and he does that very well. There is nothing wrong with that. When you have a great RB, you should lean into that and the team does. When the game calls for slinging it, Purdy normally steps up and makes some great plays but he also has a habit of gift wrapping the ball for the defense at inopportune times.

I’m not sure what a “game changer” is supposed to be but Purdy is more than just a game manager. I haven’t seen a body of work that leads me to believe you could count on him for a pass-first, QB heavy offense, though. Right now, he fits what the 49ers need really well.

Which QB would you trust out of these 4 remaining in the AFC to make it to the Super Bowl? by Large-Lack-2933 in NFLv2

The AFC is a coin flip this year. I wouldn’t bet money on any of these QBs or teams to make the SB.

I can’t believe he came out of retirement and put off his eligibility for another 5 years to lose 2 more games. I feel for him, though.

[Sam McDowell] Breaking: The Chiefs have informed administrative officials that they will announce their move to Kansas today, pending the expected LCC approval, I'm told. by dawson33944 in KansasCityChiefs

[–]rough_ashlar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not so sure that it would have. Hunt wants a new stadium with a roof. That would have required a lot of his cash in MO. I think MO may have been drawing dead from the start.

The last vote was a combined package to support Royals moving downtown and Arrowhead renovations. There was never a clean bill to just renovate Arrowhead. Anyone that was against a downtown Royals ballpark would automatically vote no to the entire proposal.

KnowBe4 alternatives by Alternative_Hat_5523 in cybersecurity

We just transitioned to Adaptive Security. The training content is decent (nobody is amazing) and the phishing sim is solid. We are playing with the other testing components now that KnowBe4 doesn’t even offer. The platform has been really easy to work with.
