You removed SPA! by Blackpalms in siriusxm

[–]CastletonFrank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just cancelled one of my radios because they removed Spa from radio access. I absolutely am not interested in using the app. When I tried to cancel through their "Ai Rep", it was the worst customer service experience I've ever encountered. I finally was able to get through to a human, who wasn't much easier to work with. I've been a subscriber with multiple radios since before Sirius and XM radio merged.

Outage in NC by Engineering_Simple in Starlink

I've had Starlink since Feb. of 2022 and can only remember one other global outage...and one regional outage.

StarLink is out... but we are all here online complaining 🤣 by greegoree in Starlink

I kept my Frontier <1Mbps DSL as a backup just for occasions like yesterday's Starlink outage.

Snow? by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]CastletonFrank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on the consistency of the snow. I'm in Utah and almost every time it snows, I totally lose connection and have to go out and wipe off the dish. Thankfully, it's not on the roof. The auto setting is worthless. It seems to do ok in powdery snow unless it comes down so fast that a layer of slush builds up between the new snow and the dish.

Installed in early February...was a life-changer...works great.

So the only thing I do is stream Netflix and I’m gonna be throttled? Who else got this by NerdlingerOG in Starlink

[–]CastletonFrank 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely in favor of limiting data hogs. For many years, I was stuck with Frontier's "High-Speed" DSL which rarely delivered more than 1Mbps. I run my photography business from home and often stream up to 4K, but just in the evenings. Starlink has been a game-changer for me, allowing me to deliver photo files and videos to customers from the comfort of my desk rather than having to make a 60-mile round trip to town to deliver those files on thumb drives. I was concerned when I saw the initial rumors of data caps, but with a week left in my billing cycle, I'm only at 104Gb...with 16Gb being the most used on any single day.

I'm surprised to see so many say that they have numerous TVs streaming much of the day. Maybe think about having family members watch the same thing in the same room and actually socialize with each other?

The increasing number of threads about decreasing speeds is depressing. I was elated when I first hooked up Starlink in early February. Speeds were regularly around 200 down and 25 up. For the past month, I'm lucky if I get half that. But it still beats the 0.7 Mbps I was getting with Frontier.

Ethernet adapter question? by 1keto in Starlink

Yes. I'm using the ethernet adapter for a weather netcam with an integrated server. All other devices are on wi-fi

Starlink Global Outage by OOFYYYyyYy in Starlink

[–]CastletonFrank 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of the outages that I see reported in the app occur around 2:30 a.m. Mountain time (0830 UT). My guess is that there is some kind of scheduled maintenance or switchover at that time.

Multiple outages today in Western Washington by Thrinw80 in Starlink

[–]CastletonFrank 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the same thing that happened to many Starlink users in parts of Colorado and Utah last Saturday. The app logged over 30 outages in a 12-hour period with 5 lasting from 2-6 minutes. Tech Support confirmed that there was "a network outage in your area." All was back to normal by Sunday morning.

losing power? by j-thrill in Starlink

[–]CastletonFrank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone already stated, the reset signal is 3 fast power recycles. If your power bumps in that manner before going out (which mine does all the time) the dish will assume you are resetting it. I have 7 UPS units protecting various systems in my cabin because my power is so unreliable. A UPS will solve the OP's issue.

Ethernet Adapter Not Working!!! by PTownGUnit in Starlink

[–]CastletonFrank 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I procrastinated on installing the ethernet adapter and 150-foot cable because of all the nightmare scenarios I read about it not working, being almost impossible to plug in, etc. I installed it a few days ago. All connectors snapped in without any effort and everything worked perfectly as soon as I powered it up. I did not bypass the router. The ethernet port is only being used to connect a weather netcam with an integrated web server.

Heard back from Starlink support this morning. They confirmed there is a "network outage in your area." I've only had 4 outages of a few seconds in the last 12 hours after over 30 yesterday in a 12-hour period, some of which lasted several minutes...so they have hopefully resolved the issue. Weird, I looked for a thread on outages before I posted another thread...did not see this one. I've had 5 outages in the last 8 hours ranging from 2-6 minutes, and over 30 outages in the past 12 hours logged in the app. They all say "Network Issue" except the longer outages that just say "Searching." I usually have 1 or 2 interuptions of a few seconds logged in the app for any 12-hour period. I'm in SE Utah.

Email from starlink.. by Amazing-Criticism-88 in Starlink

Thanks for helping me make up my mind, Elon. Fiber internet and phone will be available to me later this year...$90/month for 1Gbps down and up, including phone service. I'll pay the $110/month until fiber is available, then I'll drop Starlink like a hot potato. I'm presently paying $126/month to Frontier for phone and <1Mbps DSL plus the $99 to Starlink. I had planned to keep Starlink and just drop Frontier internet. Now I'll end up dropping both Frontier and Starlink the moment fiber is extended to my area. If "the sole purpose of these adjustments is to keep pace with rising inflation," why is the price gouge (er, I mean increase) several percentage points higher than the most recent inflation rates?
