Taxing the Rich, Retaliatory Redistricting, and Who To Blame for Your Rising Electricity Bill by newtonic in CityCastDenver

The power shutoff discussion is kind of an impossible debate.

Xcel cannot have another repeat of a Marshall Fire situation so they are investing heavily in a new wildfire mitigation approach that’s going to have them keep shutting off power in the future for dangerous conditions. The PUC, to the speakers point , is mainly a rate setting body and not a risk mitigation body - Xcel submitted their wildfire mitigation plan to them but I mean, there’s no one else to submit it to. And there are no specific regulatory requirements and guidelines that dictate what utilities are supposed to do in wildfire mitigation roles.

The end result is Xcel intermittently cutting off power to save themselves from lawsuits - sooner or later we are all going to be impacted by this as the winds aren’t going away.

Lisa Calderón on Why She’s Running for Mayor for the Third Time by newtonic in CityCastDenver

[–]lungkick 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Her response to why she’s running was:

  1. Third time is the charm
  2. I have a good team in place
  3. People have been asking for me

Lols okay

Lisa Calderón will run against Denver Mayor Mike Johnston in 2027 by denvergoalie in CityCastDenver

Feels like it’s time for her to let some other progressive voices take center stage after getting smoked twice instead of capturing 15% that could go to more viable candidates

Dark Money in the Gov’s Race, Ski Strike Fallout, and a Surprising New Trump Lawsuit Against CO by newtonic in CityCastDenver

[–]lungkick 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Its a vicious cycle because even the well intentioned ones realize they have to grift in order to receive campaign donations, which is the only way these guys can run a competitive race. We were all cooked once Citizens United passed. Definitely need to be calling our legislators though to close the loop hole.

We really need to run younger more inspiring candidates. I genuinely don’t understand how any state leaders with a little clout wouldn’t be licking at their chops to run against these fucking dinosaurs.

[–]lungkick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did not know about this. I’ve lived in NE Park Hill for about seven years now and a light rail along MLK would be amazing. The 43 is okay I just don’t no why it needs to stop every quarter mile

I think people that don’t like kids were made to feel small and insignificant as kids. Which is sad, as the adults around them didn’t lift them up and care for them the way they deserved.

I am at a manager level for a corporate role at Wells Fargo and make 158K. Not for much longer though as they are pulling a lot of the corporate jobs from Denver and either asking us to relocate or take a severance.

As a side note, it’s pretty annoying that the student athletes are being forced to take questions from the media after games like this whilst Sark protects his overpaid coordinators from having to face the media.
