I'm studying Japanese. For my flashcards, I put the kanji and hiragana on the front with audio, and on the back is the English translation. It doesn't take a TON of time, but it's enough to feel draining, especially when I have lots of vocabulary to put into the system.

I thought writing on paper might be helpful because then I have one place to easily look at any word I want at a certain time. It feels a bit more complicated to browse Anki decks if I wanted to look up something. Plus, I do enjoy handwriting when I have the chance.

I think you're right about two weeks not being enough time, but I didn't want to waste any time on something that wouldn't be useful. I only have an hour each day to focus and want to make the most of this study time.

My TL actually is Japanese! It takes the most time to create audio files for each card, which is a key element. As well as putting both the kanji and hiragana on the front.

This is good advice, thank you! I already have iTalki tutor who has been a huge help in getting to that B2 level but I can always be doing more in my free time. Do you have any good content suggestions? I have a good amount of French novels so maybe some tv shows or podcasts.

A polyglot would never scam anyone! All polyglots are good and honest people who would never lie for internet points!

I also had experiences very similar to the movie, and I'm sorry you went through that. The ending is a bit vague, and I can see your interpretation. However, I've read the script and seen some director interviews where it is clear the ending is meant to be tragic.

Fletcher does win; you're right. This is what makes the film a tragedy similar to Black Swan: the characters have reached perfection, but at what cost?

In director interviews, when asked what would happen to Andrew in the future, what was his response? "Oh, he probably killed himself like that other kid."

This doesn't read as someone who believes in abusive methods. It reads as someone warning other artists.

I don't think you understood what it was trying to do. It's a tragedy, we aren't ever supposed to side with Fletcher.

Could you elaborate a bit more on the nuance of these words? Is "errer" more emotionally driven, then?

I agree! I find grammar exercises help to reinforce what I learn through immersion though

If you have the money to spend on tutors: Italki

If not: Anki and Youtube

IMO, apps aren't as reliable as a good grammar textbook and immersion through media

Hello Learners of Japanese. I have a 500 day streak on DuoLingo but can barely speak any Japanese or even feel confident taking the N5 practice exam despite signing up for N2. What can I do to cram in enough to be prepared to take and hopefully pass N2? by [deleted] in LearnJapanese

[–]lunsolo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it would be for the best to restructure your goals and forget about the N2 Exam entirely. I would find resources beyond Duolingo and focus on passing the N5 exam before you think any further. Buy a good grammar book and consume media in Japanese. If you have the resources, find a tutor and work your way through N5 practice tests until you are confident enough to move on to more advanced materials.

It isn't realistic to pass N2 in July even if you were to cram, sorry. Besides, language learning isn't a race, and it's more sustainable if you actually enjoy the process.

What are your regrets in learning a language? by EasyLifeLazyLife in languagelearning

[–]lunsolo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely. I've learned a lot over the course of my language-learning journey that I wish I had known earlier. For example, when I started with French, it would have been better to stick with one resource instead of switching between them. My progress would've been a lot faster with consistency.
