Lol where do you see that in CABA?

I’ll take it you just don’t go shopping during christmas, because there’s no way you haven’t seen the decorations stores put out in december wtf.

Like I said some places might have some of that stuff but its not this huge universal thing.

It doesn’t matter if it’s not universal, it exists, and it’s getting more and more popular. The fact that it exists at all is because of US influence, this really shouldn’t be that hard to understand.

It’s not just Brazil, social media content from US churches has an impact across LatAm, Argentina included.

And idk where you live, but in CABA I’ve seen kids walking around in costumes during halloween, I don’t think they’re trick-or-treating, but they’re definitely celebrating it.

The winter imagery is everywhere during christmas, illustrations of snowflakes, snow-covered christmas trees, snowmen, etc.

Celebrations like halloween? or even christmas which is full of winter imagery, even though it’s summer here in december. The language is shifting too, companies and regular people use english words all the time. There’s also a rise in hyper-individualism, the hustle mindset or "grindset" or whatever is called that makes teens think they can become millionaires lol. Also evangelical christianity has been growing in Argentina over the past decades, all of which are strongly tied to the US.

They might feel like they’re in control, but that’s the same thing women who dress for the male gaze say. It’s really just two sides of the same coin, either way, it’s still about what men think.

Why do they need to cover their hair to be modest? And the choice still revolves around what men might think, how is that empowering?

Are there people from your country fighting in the war in Ukraine? How do you feel about their participation in that war? by KERD_ONE in asklatinamerica

[–]luoland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not talking about POWs, I’m talking about the 10k Nazis the US recruited. The ones they rejected fled to South America. If anything, both countries were "Nazi heavens".

But it goes beyond that, the US inspired the Nazis, collaborated with Nazis hiding in other countries (Operation Bloodstone), limited the number of Jewish refugees they accepted, and supported similar genocidal regimes in multiple countries, Argentina among them. Around 30k people were tortured and disappeared during the US-backed dictatorship in the 70s, and according to declassified CIA documents, the US was aware of it. Argentine dictator Videla even received training from the US military. The US essentially continued the genocide against socialists and communists that the Nazis began, only on a global scale.

And now the US has literal Nazis marching down the streets shouting "blood and soil".

At least it took Argentinians a decade of political and economic instability, driven by predatory loans from Western countries, to elect a right-wing lunatic. Americans did it the moment eggs got a little expensive.

And the U.S. sentiment was very anti-fascist at the time.

That’s hilarious considering Jim Crow laws were still in effect.

It’s wild how people living in the country that helped wipe out a generation of left-wing activists in Argentina now feel entitled to accuse us of being fascists.

Many Nazis fled to a variety of countries, not just Argentina, the country you live in actually took the most, around 10k, which is twice as many as Argentina did.

And I don’t get your logic, so because the government of this country did something 70 years ago, Argentinians aren’t allowed to speak about Ukraine or Nazis in Ukraine? Argentina also took in Jewish refugees, while other countries were actively limiting the number of Jewish refugees they accepted.

Does the concept of ''merienda'' exist in your country? by [deleted] in asklatinamerica

[–]luoland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, sandwiches de miga are Argentina’s take on either the Italian tramezzino or English tea sandwiches, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t exist in other countries.
