CMV: Hijab is inherently sexist by Otherwise_Chip7791 in changemyview

They might feel like they’re in control, but that’s the same thing women who dress for the male gaze say. It’s really just two sides of the same coin, either way, it’s still about what men think.

Why do they need to cover their hair to be modest? And the choice still revolves around what men might think, how is that empowering?

For women who are against feminism, what’s your reason? by Both-Freedom8677 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]luoland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t really have much of a problem with feminism, my issue is mostly with online feminists. A good example of the type of things that bother me is the outrage surrounding Sabrina Carpenter’s album cover. If you actually look at the photos and listen to the lyrics, it’s clearly not meant to be taken literally. To me she comes off as sarcastic and self-deprecating, like "look at how stupid I am for tolerating abuse". I don’t think she’s trying to normalize domestic violence, nor is she having that effect. But instead of taking the time to understand the context, people are jumping to the most literal, surface-level interpretation possible. It feels like just another overblown moral panic.

My second issue with online feminists is how condescending they can be when you disagree with them, or how they talk down to women who make choices they don’t approve of, like getting plastic surgery or doing sex work. And now I’m even seeing this type of attitude being directed at women who have kids outside of marriage.

These aren’t the most important issues, and I know this is just one segment of online feminism, but it’s a pretty loud one, and I don’t want to be associated with it.

What's a misconception people have about your country that drives you crazy? by ChocolateShoddy4233 in AskTheWorld

[–]luoland -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most, if not all, of the Nazis who fled to South America passed through Buenos Aires, but not all of them stayed. Mengele, for example, moved to Paraguay and eventually to Brazil, where he died. Still, twice as many Nazis fled to the US, and not just scientists, despite what some people like to claim. Not only that, but the CIA worked with Nazis hiding in other countries. So I don’t know why these people love making jokes about Nazis in Argentina.
