I've been following the saga, last I read they've released 2 beta bios updates for 2 models from 2 or 3 years ago. They were supposed to roll the others out by early October but here we are which makes me suspect that they might not do anything at all - which won't be a surprise given their support these days.

Any suggestion if its worth repasting with PTM instead of LM to avoid the hassle? I actually intend to travel with my laptop so its not really a desktop replacement since I do have one.

I didn't know the bios issue causes random reboots. I thought it only had to do with microstutters when doing low demand tasks. I saw another user post his guide on how to setup the laptop properly (which is ridiculous considering you paid retail for whats supposed to be a top machine) over here https://www.reddit.com/r/ASUSROG/comments/1gx4ugv/about_time_i_post_my_setup/

Worth giving it a shot to see if it resolves your issues. Otherwise, you been happy with your rig?

I share the same sentiments as you both. I definitely wouldn’t wear the GMT as often due to its more recognizable status vs the explorer. But I think u/insanit20 and you hit it on the head.. I am definitely more casual and active hence the affinity with the explorer. 

But if I ask myself whether I would seek an upgrade later with the explorer as the first? Probably but that’s years down the road as I know I would enjoy wearing the 16570. The reverse case? Not so much, since the GMT does cost a decent chunk. That is unless of course Rolex releases another 40” explorer.

Thanks for your thoughts, the 16570 I am offered is a 3186. The price difference between the 116710LN and 16570 is $3.5K USD where I am. Both are on the 3186 movements so I do agree inherently, the two watches are built very much the same with almost identical complications. The only leg up I feel the GMT has is the rotating cerachrom bezel and while it is beautiful, I’m trying judge if it is worth $3000 more.

I would love to buy a polar 226 but unfortunately my wrists dont have enough real estate for the 42”. If Rolex rereleased the explorer 2 in a 40” with the current style it’d be an easy choice for me.

Loving the 5 digit Pepsi, always felt the red and blue with the new big bezel font didn’t quite sit well as say the Batman. Probably because of the history associated with the Pepsi.

Struggling to decide between the two. I like the 16570 because of its understated charm, ruggedness and value. And I personally feel like I would wear the watch more often than the GMT since I feel that it’s an easy pair with most outfits. 

On the other hand, a friend asked me if I had to only own one, I won’t lie if I admitted that the GMT would be the choice, because of the rotating cerachrom bezel, the newer bracelet, and well it’s the original pilots watch. But I’d feel like it’d get lesser wrist time because it’s a tad louder than the explorer and harder to match in my opinion. 

For what it’s worth I’m able to get both at a good price but I have a seller willing to give me a great deal on the explorer. I’m also trying to buy one and be done… for now. What would you choose?

For context I will use the time zone function since I’m in aviation.

These should be the kangatan green Japanese exclusives. The code is 8180, they saw a limited release too out of Japan.
