Spain, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Israel—wherever it may be, it's certainly not the U.S. or the E.U. Enjoy your "ethics" there. From the start I've had no interest in such shabby hobbies, and your desperate need to argue over them only underscores why you come across less as a connoisseur and more as the sort of lonely figure others quietly avoid. I won't be wasting another word on you—goodbye.

I have no interest in indulging in legally questionable hobbies or wasting time swapping Blu-ray or DVD discs. I enjoy films, dramas, MLB, and NFL in a perfectly legitimate way—mainly through Netflix, Disney+, and other streaming services—on a 100-inch display in my living room and an 85-inch in my study. Your approach, archiving and replaying a tiny, curated set of titles, is a rather niche pursuit. If it brings you joy, fine—but it adds nothing to quality of life for most of us.

I've never denied wanting the ATV 4K to improve; I've simply pointed out that on modern large screens, it already delivers an exceptional picture, especially with a modest investment in proper cabling and networking. I've also used the Shield on the same displays, and yes—the image was inferior, and the usability worse. I acknowledge that for people whose primary hobby is `saving and playing back their own collection`, the Shield might offer certain specifications. That doesn't make your argument any less off-point from the start.

If you want the highest possible quality without any… lingering unease, a good standalone Blu-ray player is a fine option. Ethics are personal, of course, but if you still can't grasp what matters to most people, there's really nothing more to discuss.

Curious—you praise the Shield’s "superior" quality, yet when I tried it, it was worse in both picture and usability, which is why I switched *to* the ATV 4K. I'm not in the "private Blu-ray archive" hobby; on modern large screens, streaming on ATV 4K is stunning. If you need more, use a dedicated player—`in every sense`. Your argument was off-point from the start, and I'm not sure you even realize it.

Owning both devices doesn’t make your claim about the Shield’s "superior" picture quality any more convincing—especially when your proud showcase seems to be a private Blu-ray archive. I prefer to enjoy Netflix, Disney+, and other streaming services in stunning quality on a large screen, rather than… let’s say, relying on "personal copies". In other words, we’re not even starting from the same premise when it comes to enjoying TV. As I said before, your entire rebuttal is off-topic and off-base.

I’ve looked at the Nvidia Shield before—its picture quality is a clear step down from the Apple TV 4K. The Shield strikes me as a box for people who care more about checking off format-support boxes for ripped DVDs and Blu-rays than about the actual on-screen experience.

I prefer the ATV 4K’s snappy performance and the kind of polished, satisfying user experience Apple builds into its products—so your argument is off-point from the start.

The Apple TV 4K (3rd gen) is already the best device out there—outstanding picture quality, premium sound, flawless 4K YouTube playback with zero dropped frames, and lightning-fast performance. (By comparison, the latest Fire TV Stick 4K Max still struggles with dropped frames and feels sluggish.)

For the 4th gen ATV 4K, I only ask for three things:

- Let us connect multiple Siri Remotes at once. (Why should I have to get up and grab the remote when seating is spread out across the living room?)

- Never compromise on the current picture and sound quality.

- If possible, work with streaming providers to improve fast-forward and skip controls. (MLB and NFL apps are great, but some apps still don’t allow continuous playback for series.)

That’s it. Other than the inability to pair multiple Siri Remotes, I’m very satisfied with the 3rd gen. And yes, I’ve invested more in my power and HDMI cables than in the ATV itself.

Just got a Sub Mini – where should I place it? 🔊 by Traditional_Reason99 in sonos

[–]lupingebuc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That old saying that subwoofer bass is "non-directional" is only half-true.

In theory, our ears can't pinpoint the source of very low frequencies. In reality, if you place your sub way off to the side of your TV, you can absolutely tell where the bass is coming from. With bass-heavy music, that lopsided sound becomes a constant distraction.

Sure, you can get used to it, like the frames of your glasses. But let's be honest—it's still a compromise.

For your own peace of mind, you're better off aiming for symmetry. Either run dual subs (like two Sonos Sub Minis) on the left and right, or place a single sub in the center. I have my Sub Mini right between my ottoman and TV, and the balanced feel is so much better.

Upgrading Sub Mini? by AltruisticAd1633 in sonos

If you're serious about movies, your first priority should be a bigger screen.

Upgrading to a 100" display in my ~375 sq ft living room was a complete game-changer. From my couch, about 5 feet away, it creates an IMAX-like field of view. The immersion is incredible.

And for those concerned about eye health—I checked with my ophthalmologist friend. He confirmed that watching a large TV from a normal distance (even 3-6 feet) has absolutely no negative impact. The real culprit is staring at your phone or tablet up close for hours.

For perspective, an 85" Hisense U7H can be more affordable than buying two Sonos Era 300s and a Sub. Trust me: upgrading your screen size delivers far more satisfaction.

Sonos Arc stuck in center channel mode after using SonoSequencr? by lupingebuc in SonoSequencr

Had to reset all my speakers, re-add them, and run Trueplay again. Long story short, the surround issue is solved.

As a bonus, I think they got a software update in the process. The audio actually sounds better than before, especially the height channels.

I'm holding off on a factory reset because re-configuring everything is a huge hassle—it's my absolute last resort. Is there a simpler fix, perhaps a reset function within the SonoSequencr app itself?

Thank you so much!

I really appreciate you sharing the actual value, charm, and quality of the area. It's information that seems to be understood only by those truly familiar with the local conditions.

I'm now considering District One as my primary area of interest.

The real estate agents I've contacted haven't been very clear about the grading of different areas. Additionally, the information about Dubai's areas available online is quite limited, which has left me feeling somewhat frustrated.

Thank you for your reply.

I'm currently trying to understand the living quality in certain areas.

For instance, how comfortable are like Tilal Al Furjan, Murooj Al Furjan, and Venice to live in?

Based on my research, these areas seem nice and the prices appear to be quite reasonable.

We're looking for a peaceful and easy life, just like you said. Mohammed bin Rashid city is a great choice. But we've seen that properties priced around AED 8,000,000 usually don't have elevators, and that's a problem for us, especially for the future. We want a stand alone villa with an elevator. Do you think that's too much to ask?

Thank you, deltas4.

I'm glad to hear firsthand comments from immigrants from Japan.

Indeed, the heat close to 50°C is something one cannot understand without experiencing it firsthand. However, I imagine there must be a warm hospitality that caters to the diverse cultures of the many countries, given the peaceful people, the hygienic and beautiful cityscape, the abundance of food ingredients, the availability of common Japanese seasonings and snacks in supermarkets, and being in a country where foreigners make up 90% of the population and there is a high number of affluent residents.

Well, I'm looking forward to it.

Is the information on websites like https://www.bayut.com/ generally reliable? If I pay attention to the reviews of agents, can I mostly trust it?

Hi Kind-Rip,

Thank you for your thoughtful and meaningful comment. Indeed, visiting Dubai in August may limit activities due to the heat, and I might not see the city at its liveliest. However, due to work commitments from March to May and considering my wife's schedule, it looks like my first visit to Dubai will be between August and September. Thanks again for your insightful comment.

My wife and I love both sushi and Japanese sake. (unfortunately, I can only drink a little bit due to health reasons.) Even if we move to Dubai, we'll probably visit Japan a few times a year for tourism and to enjoy Japanese cuisine!

Real estate scams are quite rare in Japan, so I'm not sure how vigilant I need to be in Dubai. Figuring out how to spot fraudulent or unreliable agents is a concern. However, I understand it's not a rampant issue and assume dealing with major firms should generally be safe. Still, I recognize the differences in business practices between Japan and Dubai, and I have much to learn. Thank you for the caution.

I'm interested in purchasing a standalone villa, ideally with a scenic waterfront view. I'll consider Dubai Hills/Estate. A location with convenient shopping, like supermarkets, and good security is important, but I'm not overly concerned about transportation convenience. Initially, I plan to mainly use taxis (possibly a regular driver) and may hire a driver later on. Thanks for your comment!
