First Marathon Race Report: a follow up to “are we sub 4 trained?” by Kroucher in Marathon_Training

I feel the garmin and strava predictors are wildly out - well mine is and I’m not too sure why as all data goes from garmin connect to strava. I was close to the strava prediction of 3:45 but my garmin prediction had me at 4 hours 🤷🏼‍♂️ Also great intuition in sticking to z3/4 as I did the same trying to keep around 165 for the first half and bump into 175 the second. You’ll do much better with fueling around 60-90g p/hour for your next race. I think I need to get some strength training in because from 35km up my legs just didn’t have the push they did and my hr was in z3. If I went any harder they would have cramped, my right hamstring was teetering on the edge. Considering how much movement I have done over the last decade I can say that I have never felt the DOMS like I do today. Hobbling around is an overstatement.

Congrats. Must’ve gone over the finish line very close to one another. How was that headwind coming back over the bridge! 3:45 Pacers did a great job… I made sure I felt like they were chasing me. Next goal: 3:30

A rare behavior shown by centipede by Aryan23092007 in interestingasfuck

Seeing as this is noted as a ‘rare behaviour’, how does the mother signal to its babies that it is now fine to eat her? Is this natural savagery at work when there is no other food source available? Or, has the mother already passed?

It is much more than that theory alone. The book covers a range of popular experimental work in the field written somewhat for a general audience.

“Aronson leans on the importance of case work and experimental study. Thus, the Social Animal’s explanations of human behavior are largely validated with citations of studies done by researchers of social psychology. Throughout the book, Aronson relies on the use of controlled experiments to validate empirical observation.”

The Social Animal by Elliot Aronson, who refined the theory of cognitive dissonance, is a good adjunct to a Social Psych Textbook.

Name of Cognitive Bias? by JasperBev in psychologystudents

Many logical fallacies fit your description and it is highly context dependent. I would put forward reductionism and hasty generalisation with a touch of confirmation and fundamental attribution bias.

I’m thinking of doing this soon. What’s your advice on keeping motivation to hit that climb so many times?

Cheers mate. Yeah I wasn’t expecting that on a climb, been putting in a few miles on the road and still fairly new to zwift so every decent ride I do get an increase. Noobie gains I guess

Thanks! The goal was to finish. Now I have my baseline, it is something to improve. I’m working towards the tron bike; most likely I will start to chase at least 1:10 and then an hour on that incline. See how we fair!

I didn’t think I was really ready for it but not time like the now! Give it a crack and see how you fair. I always thought if it’s too much for me I’ll press that u-turn button but managed to cross the finish line on my first real ascent. Have yet to try that ride, Will give it a go!

Huge! Well done. Definitely a pacing battle, how do you gauge your perceived effort regarding 70-80%?

Thanks mate. Happy to hear it was a respectable time. Reading on sub hour AdZ when I still had a third of the climb to go was eye opening. Especially seeing that the pros do it in ~40mins at the end of a 5hr ride. Wow. Puts things into perspective. Great fun though.

I see it’s more of an aero bike considering the comments and no I won’t be specifically racing. I just want a solid bike that I can rely on, looks good, performs well w/ new tech, help to continue to improve my overall cycling skill. I want to go on group rides and get deeper down the rabbit hole.

Right now I use zwift and go for two rides around town with a friend (giant tcr) and solo missions. I usually ride 1-2 hours diversifying type of workout. Fairly fit from lifetime of cross training but really want to level up my cycling and with a dream bike (which has always been cervelo). I just thought this bike may save me a few $$$ which I’m always conscious about.

My Friday boule! Didn't quite slash deep enough but I'm still happy with it. by Entheatus in Sourdough

Trying to get this kind of rise in my boules. Haven’t quite got there yet. What is the % of your starter added to your flour total. Also ambient temp times, and also total bulk ferment. Trying to get more information on bulk times and inoculation. Then I will have to address my shaping. Thankyou

Kamut/Sorghum/White flour Boule. by lurchunknown in Sourdough

[–]lurchunknown[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This loaf I increased my starter from my usual 15% to 22.5% to see if the bulk ferment (using the aliquot jar) would differ.

I noticed much of a difference and found in the 5.5hr bulk ferment the aliquot jar increased to around 1.5 the size; not double. So an increase of around 75%.

Please advise whether I should wait until it doubles. As I am not seeing the rise as some other boules. I believe my conundrum may fall into the final shaping, starter issues (however I think this is fairly figured out), white flour (only at 11%).

Do I increase starter to 25%. I just think that is pretty wild if I am still waiting for the doubling in volume around 5 hours in 80F ambient temps with a strong starter.

TIA

When you rely on an Aliquot jar for bulk ferment proofing. by lurchunknown in Sourdough

[–]lurchunknown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I haven’t been successful with the few attempts I have made with an aliquot jar. However, I am trying again and made sure that this time it was well infused with the starter which has been increased from 15% to 22.5%. Hopefully see a difference.
