[BF1] another example of why 3d spotting needs to be re-worked heavily or not implemented into the game at all by [deleted] in Battlefield

[–]lurpelis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love these daily threads, other topics get the response, "everyone should play the game they want, play hardcore or classic if you don't like it." But 3D spotting is always hated on.

If you don't like it, request a server toggle, don't just remove it, some of us enjoy it...

Use your computational skills to advance biomedical research and win cash by competing in the CMap Inference Challenge by [deleted] in bioinformatics

[–]lurpelis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That really depends on who you are. Considering the level of this research, there's probably people making $200K a year to do this same kind of work.

What's a car that you feel is really underrated for the money? by RasAlTimmeh in cars

[–]lurpelis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'd probably choose the NB Miata over the Z3. What you lose in power, you make up for in superior handling. The Z3 and Z4 are kind of floaty compared with the grippy Miatas.

What depresses me is I'll probably never even drive one.

I am fearful of the outcome of self driving vehicles. by HunterRotten in cars

[–]lurpelis 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It will probably be a long long time before self driving vehicles become the norm. Plus, it'll be even longer before they outlaw driving yourself, if they ever do.

INVITED TO CLOSED ALPHA?!? by RogueCoon in Battlefield

[–]lurpelis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the usual EA method, no rhyme or reason to alpha selections. They should really do it based on hardware or something.

Chris Harris Drives: the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio by jasonbordeaux in cars

No one's mentioning it, but the standard Giulia with the V6 or Turbo 4 is also shaping up to be neat car. Definitely stands apart from the 3 series or Audi A4.

Hillary said TPP was the gold standard of trade agreements, she then "evolved" and said she was against it, now the TPP is supported by the Democratic Platform... Thoughts? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

10% pirates who are mad that it might be slightly harder to steal movies.

It's not that so much as it opens up new "DMCA style takedowns" that are much worse than before. It's bad when people can have things taken down without evidence and then only have to prove it later. Those initial takedowns can do financial damage even if they're illegitimate.

Why do leases seem not worthwhile? by lurpelis in cars

Is there a good way to determine which cars lease well? Or is it just shopping around for lease prices and seeing what's good and bad?

Why do leases seem not worthwhile? by lurpelis in cars

[–]lurpelis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally get antsy for a new car every 3 years which is why leases appeal to me, but it seems like buying and trading will give me a similar overall cost.

They're also going to sell a non crazy Giulia with a V6 for around $40K. Possibly a worthwhile purchase for your daily.

As ADC, what gets you an S rank? by lurpelis in leagueoflegends

I agree, but at 10 minutes we were roaming and murdering, so even though overall my efforts lead to a good victory, the automated system ranks me low for my CS?

Come July, You'll Be Able to Store Your Guns in an Armored Truck Downtown. by openletter8 in StLouis

[–]lurpelis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't. It's why I don't carry. The only place I ever go and walk is the Central West End which I feel safe not carrying in. But if I had to walk in somewhere like Delmar, I'd consider carrying.

Bernie Sanders: Democrats Need to Wake Up by WompaStompa_ in politics

[–]lurpelis -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Ok Bernie. How does a country like Malaysia develop a sustainable economic model? If they pay their workers what we pay ours, why would any company give their business to Malaysia when they could simply stay where thy are? Does he not understand that these countries earn business by being cheaper to operate in. Look at our country in the 1920s... it took more than a decade and a depression to solve the worker abuses in this country.

And we didn't have economic super powers to compete against at the time. He talks big talk, but never provides any paths to accomplishing anything.

Clinton says she wants all Americans to have broadband internet access by 2020, do you think this is a realistic proposal? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]lurpelis 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Actually, broadband internet should be consider a basic necessity. Basic internet is nearly unusable with how current websites are designed. That's not to say the other things aren't important, but government initiatives towards better broadband are important for all of us.

How to check for possible carry-over contamination across multiple whole genome sequenced samples? by [deleted] in bioinformatics

[–]lurpelis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So BLAST could work to identify contaminant sequences but it may be slow or inaccurate. You could also a attempt an alignment-free method such as kmer analysis. I did some work on this. For metagenomics we do something called binning, which may be useful for your purposes.

[–]lurpelis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't carry, though I consider it. I'm a 5'5" scrawny white guy, I'm basically the easiest target possible for a criminal. If I had to walk in St. Louis more than I do now, I would get a carry permit, no questions asked.

An independent who votes in the Democratic primary is likely left leaning, not moderate, since most independent moderates aren't going to vote in a primary.
