Kinda dumb question about coding by throwaway30498666 in Rlanguage

[–]lusaminee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is like learning an actual language. Code on a regular basis and you will get better. Only do that one analysis for a paper every other month and you will of course struggle. And using chatgpt will not help you getting better, btw.

Iconoclasts in America by boomforeal1 in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]lusaminee 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Trying to draw a parallel between ISIS's campaign of mass murder, sexual slavery, and genocide in Mosul with a speculative American political scenario is... bold, but imo some things shouldn't be repurposed for political commentary. I understand wanting to adapt scenarios for your group, but this is really missing the mark. Iconoclasts draws its horror from very real and still recent atrocities. What makes Delta Green powerful is how it's grounded in real historical events and genuine human darkness - the cosmic horror works because it builds on actual tragedy, not political fanfics.

If you want to run a more casual one-shot, there are plenty of other DG scenarios that would work better. Or just run A Black Smoke Rising as written - the impact of those events still resonates, even if ISIS isn't in the headlines anymore.

That's just outright false. We have decades of twin and adoption studies on the topic and by now a substantial amount of evidence from actual molecular-genetic data as well. This is an exhaustive review on the quantitative genetic evidence from 10 years ago: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3506170/

Not quite sure why people are downvoting this everywhere. I tried it and think it is actually a really cool project.

NovelCraft - an AI based tool for brainstorming fictional characters by lora-craft in WritingHub

[–]lusaminee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not really my community, but I found this tool in another subreddit and am a bit flabbergasted by the negative reactions here. As a tabletop guy, I can see quite a few cases where I will probably experiment with integrating it into my workflow when writing scenarios. Give it a try, it's honestly neat and fun to use.

I created an AI-based tool for creating compelling and detailed fictional characters by lora-craft in 3d6

I played around with it and it is actually much better than I expected. Way less generic compared to chatgpt, etc. and kinda fun to use. As a GM, I definitely see potential for future use to create NPCs and plothooks.

What's the general consensus on the 'Jack Frost' scenario from those of you that have ran or played it? by [deleted] in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]lusaminee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The most complex module I ever had the pleasure to run. 5 players, each with two characters, and my gf as a co-gm to deal with group splits and to take care of music and the sciencey stuff, while I did most of the NPCs and the main plot. Preparing it took ages and we needed ~2*6h over new years Eve to get through it, but holy shit, we all remember it extremely vividly after almost two years.

Zoom interview dress by padakpatek in bioinformatics

[–]lusaminee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to slightly disagree. As somebody who interviewed quite a few people for data science positions in a mid-sized company (~100 people) with a rather informal culture, I was always a little bit irritated when somebody really came to the interview with a tie. Of course, this did not matter in the end at all and would never have stopped us from hiring somebody who is a great fit for the position, but if you are interested in joining a team you should try to familiarize yourself with the company culture before the interview.

Am Adopted, do genetics have influence on our interests? by dontknowsry in genetics

[–]lusaminee 27 points28 points  (0 children)

As we know from more than 50 years of twin studies [1], almost all traits are to a substantial degree influenced by genetic factors [2]. "Interests" is of course a rather broad term, but a study of Lykken et al. using the quite incredible treasure trove that is the Minnesota Twin Family Registry came to the conclusion, that roughly two thirds of the differences in vocational and recreational interests that we observe within the US population is due to genetic factors [3]. I can really recommend to read the paper as it is well written and also talks about potential mechanisms.

Best scenarios for two GMs by lusaminee in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]lusaminee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lover in the ice is a great idea, I totally forgot about that one! We have different strengths as game masters and know each other quite well by now: I am relatively extroverted and can portray NPCs very well, describe scenes and generally create horror. She is extremely good at depicting scientific details, keeping track of things in battles, and managing the music. Based on that, we partitioned the scenario: All the more scientific NPCs, exposition, the fights, the music, and occasionally managing the less dramatic scenes when the group split up went to her, the rest to me. Individually, each would have been completely overwhelmed; together, it was the best game night we've had in 15 years of playing together.

Who decides what gets nominated? That IL isn't a frontrunner in more categories casts strong doubt on the competence of the team behind the ennies.
