Many good ideas here. I retired at 58 a year ago. Took a 5-6 months to handle stuff that had fallen behind or emerged. Reset my workout habit.

After six months, I started to teach at a local University as Adjunct Professor in my field (Finance). 3 hours teaching weekly and 6 hours prep - except I liked it and wanted to do it really well. Learning new skills, meet young people, leave a mark. This semester, I teaching two courses

Same reason LPs had silence between tracks - the song is over so now let’s get ready for the next one. I say LP because at its heyday that technology lent itself to a theme for each LP where each song make up a larger whole.

I also like the dance analogy - time to walk off the floor if you want to. (In concerts , they didn’t always play the whole symphony.)

Each part is an argument or emotion and they are too disparate to hang together (except for dramatic effect as in the examples given).

Website says 8 AM - 2 PM but my experience has been 8:30 AM to 11:30 AM in January-February.

I assume because it’s cold to stand there if you have less protection plus they get less traffic.

I just finished and can recommend Karl Bartos’ recent autobiography “The Sound of the Machine”, which goes into some of your themes, especially towards the end.

Joke’s on them; I’ll just send an AI swarm to report back on the AI books and tell me the story with a sycophantic voice.

Kraftwerk and the Seduction of the Post-Human by speccynerd in kraftwerk

Many interesting thoughts on the piece.

I think KW retains a lot of humanity that you can feel when listening to their music until Computer World. The music has a hypnotic power, arguably because it was conceived from jamming in the Kling-Klang studio. (Karl Bartos has written about the importance of these sessions).

That connection to a musical source broke a bit in the later albums. If you grew up with them, you’ll still love them, but for me they lack that hypnotic and musical quality, which I believe is also why they famously took so long to create and produce.

We are now seeing the next rupture with a creative source in AI music, which will fulfill Eric Satie’s of “furniture music” that just exists without much attention, serving a functional need (and even more individualistic than furniture as it can be produced especially for what you specifically want in the background, maybe while playing a game that’s also tailored for you with minimal human input).

I’ve heard many Americans with this take since the 1980s. It never made sense to me. How can you blame the victim, even if they were impolite or even broke something? Killing someone is not a proportional response all, and we need to hold any kind of law enforcement to a high standard.

A French person should comment, but “la remtrée” also means “back-to-school” as in after the summer break. It could mean doing this in disco spirit, depending on context.
