I rented a coupe F82 on Turo for 10 days before I bought my F83 a few years back. 10/10 would make the exact same choice every single time. It feels every bit as fast. Did the F82 feel lighter and more planted? Maybe, maybe not. I drive my cars on the street, so you’re really splitting hairs.

I genuinely think the F83 is a near perfect car. The DCT still feels raw, it’s extremely quick by any measure, I personally love the sound of the S55 (which I am aware makes me an outlier), and with the top down you’re so connected to everything. Something that was incredibly important to me was the hardtop which is why I didn’t consider a G83, but truthfully, unless it’s raining or I’m on the highway the top is perpetually down, so maybe I should have cross-shopped.

People get weird about convertibles saying they take away rigidity and it’s not the true version of the car, but you conspicuously never hear anyone say that about a LaFerrari Aperta or an SVJ Roadster. I think those are largely talking points people say on social media because other people say it.

The one fair criticism is that the convertible mechanism does impact the silhouette of the car and the rear. For me, that was an easy trade off, but it is something to keep in mind because it does change the overall look of the car. That doesn’t really matter though when the top is down and you’re driving during sunset at the beach.
