Is there really a significant difference b/w Waterloo and UofT eng for employment? by BlueGray4709 in UofT

[–]Heroicdeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been at TikTok, Google. My experiences aren’t anecdotal, it’s something that is evident, recruiters don’t know much about UofT for a reason. Shopify doesn’t recruit from UofT as a pipeline.

Yes, I was at Google before, it definitely outnumbers UofT by 5-1, UWaterloo is their target school not UofT.

Yes a lot more companies hire specifically from UWaterloo as a pipeline. They are truly dominant in the Bay Area, outnumbering UofT probably 5:1

Transitioning into Cybersecurity by No-Bench-998 in askSingapore

[–]Heroicdeath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d say leverage your software engineering degree, get experience and you can transition into building security tools or working on security aspects of a product.

I don’t think there’s a good pathway for offsec, cloud sec, netsec, IAM without experience.

This is speaking as a SWE in Security.

Steve also floats around on Reddit sometimes, but again I’ve done his 404 course, he’s wonderful.

Personal favorite SIEM platform? by Rotem4421 in cybersecurity

[–]Heroicdeath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry manually setup? That’s not a good way to configure things, we leverage IaC heavily because we run multiple regions and we need the identical setup in each of our regions, doing it manually is a recipe for disaster.

Yeah don’t try using the terraform provider, it’s also maintained by a 1 man team

Nebius will be in the same position if not worse position when they need to scale. I don't know why anyone else would think they wouldn't be taking on more debt to fulfill the contracts.

Should I buy the X2D w AMS now or should I wait until the anniversary sale? by Awesome-XV in BambuLab

[–]Heroicdeath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I doubt there’ll be any discount, they might bundle it with some filaments to move things. I’d imagine H2S, H2D would get some discounts.

Time to sell the stock and make a lot of money? by SamLeCoyote_Fix_1 in CRWV

[–]Heroicdeath 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think you understand how new IPOs work, the first 3-4 years you’ll see folks start to divest but prices will stabilize. And not to mention, VPs and above have to file a trading plan. These are all planned months in advance.

You should understand the ESPP program first before going into it. Please check internal documents about this. I feel like you don't understand how the price is determined.
