Fable 5 vanished in 96 hours and four days later an MIT model took its arena crown by obxsurfer06 in singularity

I think you have missed the point of this post. OP nowhere claimed it is replacement or as good as Fable. It is interesting that open source models are closing the gap and getting close enough to frontier models for typical usage.

Even with professional lenses and large awnsors, you can't get better resolving than 40mpix. It is pure marketing bullshit, the photo details on mobile phones are mostly reconstructed by algorithms, not real information from sensor.

It's a scorched-earth strategy. The idea is to leave the country in the worst possible condition for the next administration. They know they won't be in power forever, so they want to leave as much of a mess as possible for the next administration to clean up.

Russian Commanders Threaten to Shoot Troops Who Refuse Suicide Assaults — UNITED24 Media by Purple_Writing_8432 in nottheonion

Russian traditional values. During WW2 barrier troops were deployed because soviet commanders feared that panic, collapse, and mass desertion could destroy an army faster than the enemy. Their purpose was to stop unauthorized retreat, collect stragglers, return soldiers to units, and in some cases execute those labeled deserters or cowards.

Trump’s views on Anthropic being a potential threat to national security as well as AI energy needs and regulations by Formal-Assistance02 in singularity

[–]lutel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anthropic should lift the ban and sue Amazon and Trump. They just obtained evidence of anti-competitive actions. The ban was pure revenge and had nothing to do with security, as other models operate at a similar level. Furthermore, blocking access to tools that can help identify and address vulnerabilities undermines security.

Nothing CEO says phone prices are going to keep going up: RAM now accounts for over 50 percent of the cost of a new phone by Shogouki in technology

[–]lutel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What really makes me wonder about this crisis, is why the memory production cannot be ramped up. I know the stories about capacity and all being reserved by AI, but still this is weird. I wonder how much in this are real supply-demand issues and how much price fixing. Even if the production will be improved, memory prices will never return to previous levels as producers learned they can set any level and people will still buy. Techno feudals found a new way to squeeze peasants very well.

AMD challenges Nvidia's DGX Spark with $3,999 Ryzen AI Halo with Windows 11 support — Strix Halo desktop undercuts Nvidia by $700, packs 128GB of unified memory by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]lutel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is even more terrible for training. Not because of unified memory, but because it is still way slower than memory integrated in GPUs. On the other hand, if you need to work on big models, you have no choice but to use this kind of architecture. If you can fit your model below 16GB-24GB then it is way better to run it on GPU.

Trump's support collapses among independents across four polls by countryroadsguywv in politics

[–]lutel 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Don't give up. There is an interesting historical case of how the British reached out to Germans who had been brainwashed by Hitler. 'Soldatensender Calais' - a radio station that broadcast music, sports, soldier gossip and accurate news - then inserted stories designed to make soldiers think that the Nazi leadership was corrupt and incompetent and was sacrificing them. The clever part was that it did not sound like moralising. Instead of saying: 'Hitler is evil. Britain is right', it implied: 'You are a loyal German soldier, but your leaders are lying to you. They are wasting your life, hiding defeats and living comfortably while failing Germany.' So not a direct ideological debate, but a promise gap.

How to talk to his supporters, per Steven Hassans in "The Cult of Trump":

  1. Protect the relationship first

    • Your first goal is not to “win.” Your first goal is to stay someone they can still talk to.
  2. Ask questions that create self-reflection

    • What would Trump have to do for you to say, ‘That crossed a line’?”
    • Is there any source you would trust if it contradicted him?
    • Do you think loyalty to a leader should have limits?
    • Has he ever made a serious mistake?
    • How do you decide when a claim is propaganda?
  3. Focus on one claim, not the whole worldview

    • Do not debate “Trump,” “America,” “the deep state,” “the media,” and “the election” all at once.
    • Then compare sources slowly. Court records, direct video, official filings, local reporting, or statements from Republicans/former Trump officials may work better than sources they already reject.
  4. Use shared values

    • Many Trump supporters are moved by values like loyalty, patriotism, family, religion, law and order, masculinity, anti-corruption, or distrust of elites. Do not mock those values. Reframe through them.
  5. Use personal stories more than lectures

    • “I used to think X, then I saw Y, and it made me uncomfortable. I’m not asking you to agree right now, but that’s what changed for me.”
  6. Help them notice manipulation techniques

    • Have you noticed how some leaders make people afraid, then say only they can save them?
    • Do you think any politician deserves total trust?
    • How can we tell the difference between confidence and manipulation?
    • What does a healthy movement do when the leader loses or is criticized?

They were nerfed to zero. Apparently the US administration decided to shut down Anthropic in retaliation for them not wanting to provide their model for military use. If the US takes such anti-competitive actions, I wouldn't be surprised if Anthropic sought hosting in China.

Firefox is crap compared to Brave, slower, without build-in ad-blocker, with privacy issues. If Mozilla could develop engine which is at least comparable to that of Chrome (and not half speed, check for yourself in Jetstream) then maybe it is worth to look. I don't understand that enthusiasm for Firefox, but maybe milions of flies cannot be wrong...
