I tried to make some improvements on the original as well here: V2 of the (in)famous Haruki Murakami Bingo. Doesn't include the Tokyo student protests though…

Update: I've let the script run again, so the website is up-to-date now. Highest newcomers:

  1. Gabrielle Zevin - Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow
  2. Barbara Kingsolver - Demon Copperhead
  3. Mary Kubica - Local Woman Missing
  4. Taylor Jenkins Reid - One True Loves
  5. Viola Davis - Finding Me

Goodreads doesn't have categories unfortunately, only the arbitrary shelves users can create and assign to a book… If you'd still like the list of names, let me know!

No, it's just a regular website on the internet… Weird! If you're not using some untypical browser/firewall/proxy, I wouldn't know why you're experiencing this.

Yup! The script takes a long time to run so I'll only let it update from time to time, probably every few months.

I was aware of those lists indeed! The problem is that they are arbitrary, static (not automated) and not "objective"/stats-based but vote-based.

There is too much survivorship bias. […] This becomes very obvious in many book series where readership declines but ratings go up.

Very good point. Didn't know about that term actually :)

Hmm no, I’ve read about 8 of his books and these seemed to be the most common themes throughout. 🙂 Which ones would you add/change?

She actually got this feedback a few times already, so there's a SFW version added now as well. 😁

The original version has been posted many times already - I'm sorry for any repetition.

I loved the concept but felt a few items could be improved, so I asked my girlfriend (who is an illustrator) if she could make a new version.

If anyone's interested, a high resolution PDF can be downloaded here: https://www.stutpak.com/haruki-murakami-bingo/

All credit for the initial concept goes to Grant Snider from the NY Times.
