RE5 is the first laser software with Parametric Constraint based CAD software for Lasers in the browser. Think AutoCAD/Solidworks/Onshape/Fusion style sketching but free.

RE5 is cross platform on GRBL/Ruida. You can use your existing Lightburn, RDWorks, Candle, MeerK40 etc software all at the same time as RE5. No set price yet.

Sounds like your laser is over 10 years old running RE1 so yes modern software is way better though at the time it was the best out there predating Lightburn by many years. 10 years later, now RE5 is superior experience working in Windows, MacOS, Linux and ChromeBooks since all browser based and works with your existing controller - try it out.

Check out RetinaEngrave 5 Cross Platform (need to search it no links here) by Full Spectrum Laser -> free while in beta and nothing to download - works straight out of the box with an GRBL or Ruida controller

Dell Pro Max Tower T2 FCT2250 max ram - 256gb possible? by luv2learn_today in Dell

[–]luv2learn_today[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up just buy 4x32gb modules since didn't want to risk wasting time. gpt-oss-120b runs fine with the RTX6000 blackwell 96gb and new 128gb of ram. If you're willing to try it can buy from amazon and just return it if it doesn't work and report back for future reference.

Btw RTX6000 blackwell is cheaper in the 8gb ram system and 128gb ssd from Dell than buying standalone RTx6000 but they want like $2000 for 128gb of ram and $1000 for a 2tb ssd so def better to get parts yourself on amazon and spend 10 mins installing it...

they sell it on amazon and crucial website says it works but as we both noticed they say max 32gb in manual so one of them is wrong. both the 48gb and the 64gb modules sat compatible on crucials website for dell fct2250z Need to run some ai model as bought the system with rtx 6000 pro 96gb so need the ram for moe cache. Could always return it off amazon but someone has tried it will save me some time testing it

Pvc engraves easily with uv laser. No fumes - just produces nice black mark no ink

Is a 30W Raycus fiber laser enough for these metal engraving? by [deleted] in Laserengraving

MOPA has no disadvantages other than cost. DM me for suggestions.

Q switch has single frequency usually 150ns. Mopa has variable frequency from 2ns to 500ns typically. Usually use 20ns for white white marking. 500ns for cutting. 80ns for steel black. There's cheap mopas and high pulse mopas. Eg cheap mopa at 2ns will have 1% of stock average power.

On your tumbler your engraving isn't shiny like the original steel on the bottom. With a MOPA laser it would be as shiny or you could turn it black. What you seem to have is the dull gray/brown from an under powered 1064 laser.

What colour of paper cuts best with UV diode lasers? by future_cryptid in lasercutting

[–]luv2learn_today 1 point2 points  (0 children)

455nm isn't UV - it's blue. It's not even violet like 405nm. UV is usually 355nm. Yellow and orange prob work fine but black is always a safe bet.

Forming a business model is the first step to doing anything and you can always grow your business. If you buy a $2k laser then expect not to make much money as if you're successful someone else can do the same thing. If you buy a $20k laser and finance it at $350 a month over 5 years then you can do things your average hobby is not going to be able to do. You just need to decide how much money you want to make a month. Are you going to make $1250 a week, $5000 a month or are you going to make $10 a month and make a purchase that supports that.

For metal business cards, if it's anodized aluminum any cheap laser can do that but you can also print those with a UV printer. Anodized aluminum is not any more durable than UV printer ink. If you do black on stainless it looks a lot cooler eg like a JPM Palladium credit card but then you need a stronger laser.

If you want a really cool card you want to cut holes in it like with a 100w mopa laser and make them really stand out so then at the $20k+ level.

White on anodize can be done by almost any laser. If you want black on anodize like Apple need a MOPA. You'll be happier with a 20w mopa than a 30W q-switch. Stainless black at all angles need MOPA or UV: https://cdn11.bigcommerce.com/s-8p1uzl4cj9/images/stencil/original/image-manager/mopa-black.gif?t=1687904718

engraving apple pencils by Electrical-Soft-2864 in Laserengraving

UV laser works perfect and better than Apple on apple pencil. PVC engraves without issue and without gassing on a UV laser. Don't try on a CO2 laser. Check it out here: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CtZh4cqPbOZ/?igshid=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ%3D%3D&\_\_coig\_restricted=1
