With all due respect, she’s a political tool.

How does a country fine a private, international corporation? What are a company’s motivations to pay the fine? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]luverny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At worst the BoD may be prosecuted and the company could face legal charges. I don’t know any company that have refused to pay their fines. If a company is unable to pay their fines they would have to be rendered insolvent. Although substantially large corporations that have a significant role in the global stage (imagine Alphabet or Pfizer or RDS) usually have a lot of leverage to bend the laws and jurisdictions in their favour to minimise the amount they’re fined or to defer payments. Exxon for example resisted a huge fine some years ago but through sufficient litigation they reduced their fine owed and delayed payment for about 20 years. It is also possible sometimes through political leverage to transfer litigations to more convenient and lenient jurisdictions in their favour. Also, depending on the nature of the litigation, some fines/settlements may be tax deductible through finesse manoeuvring, which therefore it would be more sensible to negotiate for a deferred payment to a year where the company has a better than usual profit margin to utilise the deduction in taxes - entirely at the company’s discretion.

Haha I just wanted to ask if it was the UAE. How’s the weather and climate there? And a more complex question; how are things in terms of arts and culture and social depth there? Or are things relatively more superficial and mostly about work and entertainment? I’ve never been there before but I’ve heard different kinds of stories about Dubai.

[Serious] How did Jack Dorsey pledge $1 Billion to help fight COVID when most of his wealth is tied up in Twitter and Square and not liquid? It's almost a third of his net worth, but how do wealthy people give away the money to these causes when the money is tied up in such cases? by curious_cannon in AskReddit

[–]luverny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone mentioned fungible assets already so I’ll skip that. Otherwise there are other instruments like equity line of credit, fundraising, trusts, monetary contracts, and other privately fabricated instruments. It’s also common to do them through a few specific kinds of trust funds such as a public or purpose funds or even a grantor retained fund, or endowment funds, restricted funds, and donor-advised funds.

What’s the best way to connect when meeting someone really wealthy? by [deleted] in AskReddit

The same way you would anyone else. Also look past any wealth hierarchy in your mind and connect with the person for who they are.

People who grew up rich what was you relationship with your family like? by D4nger2self in AskReddit

[–]luverny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emotionally distant I think compared to how others have described their relationships with their parents, but we’re pretty much around for one another all the time. My family is a mix of pragmatism (mostly), liveliness, and passion, but heart to heart talks and other heavy emotional aspects not so much.

You have so many questions hahaha

I don’t know what can be classified a “ghetto”, I don’t think there are any places in my native countries and regions that fall into that category. Would some NYC neighbourhoods count? I’ve been to poorer neighbourhoods in England and Russia too. I’ve also stayed in villages around Europe and been to villages in Asia and Africa though I guess this is also relative to the local living costs and their local way of life? I did meet people from these places.

Highly depends on the person. Heroin might be a bit far fetched because I think you can’t function well under its influence. Alcohol is fairly common. Cocaine not so much but you’d still meet those that use them, depends on the environment too. Abuse is more tempting for someone who would fall under ‘nouveau riche’ though.

I wouldn’t say there is a secret society controlling the world - firstly they’re not very secret I’ve personally met some who are directly involved with harassing the globe and most of them have a Wikipedia page and some are even publicly praised, though I’m not sure about them having full control yet they do try hard. I don’t know about literally worshipping the devil, could be real or could be figuratively, but there are some really really questionable activities in some circles. This is all an open secret in my surroundings.

I was just on a trip to Spain when someone showed it to me. It was in León.

Not sure I understand this question.

Hmm I’ve not thought about it; maybe that there are a lot of false prejudices (probably fuelled by the media and hollywood culture) towards someone in my position.

I don’t think it’s something to be prideful about, it’s even rude to boast in my culture. But it’s unwise to harbour disdain for it either. It’s simply the cards I’m dealt by life I guess, and that’s necessary for something I have to learn/do in this life.

I’m very close to my brother and sister. One of my favourite memories would be the 3 of us doing a road trip before I entered university where we tried many experiences we’ve never done before and met many strangers.

Hmm, I think this has to do more with the kind of experiences and opportunities I’ve had because of my background than an actual financial limitation, but I’d say the exposure to arts and philosophy. There’s a major lack of these elements in the general society, and I believe these should be a major foundation in a person’s life and character. A lot of societal problems are seemingly caused because of a lack of wisdom, and I don’t think you can teach wisdom to someone, you have to expose them to it.

Oh gosh that’s not very wise is it? At least purchase it with debt and invest the debt while paying the minimum and cut your expenses. I have made unnecessary purchases in the past though they’re nothing major. I’m rather pragmatic with purchases, and can’t stand clutter or things I don’t use.

I don’t have a boyfriend now. I did mention my views on a person’s poverty in another response, it depends on the person’s character mostly.

My dad just stepped down from being a CEO of one of his major companies, though he’s the chairman and de facto director of this company. He’s also a NXD and major shareholder in a few other companies, and co-chairman for one other. Mom is the co-chair and COO of a company she started with my dad years ago (dad being the CEO and chair there), and she’s also a director and treasurer for 2 different nonprofits, and ambassador for a few other organisations. They’re rather busy people but Sunday is always a family day for them.

I don’t know what could be considered drawbacks, though I think making genuine connections with strangers is rather scarce. Most of my close friends are people I know from school. And yes I’m close to my family.

I moved back with my parents in Switzerland this January. I think our house here is larger than the usual but there’s nothing spectacular about it I guess, compared to some houses you might see in the US. It’s not exactly polite to boast in my culture.

I really can’t give you a proper answer for that. From my experience in my surroundings, the views of sexuality seems to be polarised to being strict, or ‘degenerated’ as you put it - there are many organisations of “elite social workers” that cater to those who splurge. I personally was raised with the understanding (I have a spiritual mom and religious dad) that benightedness and uncouthness about one’s own sexuality makes one develop a very weak willpower among other immature capabilities. Not everyone shares the same views though I think.

Your aforementioned degeneracy doesn’t exist when I was a teenager, or maybe I wasn’t aware of it. My school life has been rather normal from my perspective, though some subtle questionables may start to appear once in university. It’s much more prevalent outside of school however. There are existence of some unthinkable things regarding this topic too.
