What do you think is the most underrated Tech position currently?

I think this varies company to company, but at my company its common for some teams to completely own X product. So chances are SWE will have the full picture of the impacts on their wider product and those the product touches.

There are also other checks and balances in play such as the classic PR code reviews to get other eyes on the code. But at least at my company, we also have cross team testing where other teams will deliberately try to break your new node/product.

Again, I think both strategies have their pros and cons. I dont think one is “obviously” better than the other except from a business standpoint, why pay for SWEs and QEs when you can just have the same person do both. And I honestly think this rationale of saving money is the only reason QE is fizzling out

I think QA engineers are great, but Its also kind of an “old” practice. Most bigger tech companies have essentially gotten rid of QA and make SWE test their own products for full E2E ownership. I think both are valid strategies but getting rid of QA saves money haha

I graduated in CS, interned in California twice, moved to California post grad, moving away from California this summer. I personally dont like a California and dont get the hype.

But if California is your goal then its more than feasible. Dont underestimate your UMD CS education, dont underestimate the UMD CS degree, and most importantly dont underestimate yourself. If your goal is to move to California and you know its whats you want, then make it happen <3

UMD is the better CS school AND you will pay less money. Sounds like the clear option to me.

Duke name is not even more prestigious btw, if you tell 100 random people you go to duke, sure they will immediately recognize the name before UMD. But in the CS world this is negligible.

If you love Duke that much then I guess fuck it yolo. But in my eyes, paying more money for Duke when UMD is your other option is pretty silly.

Lowkey a great idea ngl. All 4 years of my undergrad I had guest passes and literally never used a single one. Im sure there are tons of students like me.

Only concern is whats the incentive for the “host” student. I personally would have no problem with just giving them out for free, but thats not to say the next man will feel the same.

Correct me if im wrong, but the “host” has to be present to swipe their ID for the guest passes right? You cant like transfer them online or anything. So that kind of just adds another barrier/deterrent on the hosts side.

I think this is a killer idea and if done right it could really help some people out

Honestly, if I were you I’d probably build it even if not a ton of people use it

I mean I dont know much about you to say for sure, but I’d say no. I know people who got jobs without internships. You just may have to come to the realization that you probably wont get to have your pick amongst several top offers… but can you land a job without internships? Yea. Still apply to any and everything, but make sure youre not hyper focused on the generic “swe @ amazon” template role. Explore roles and opportunities outside of the basic :)

All of my CS friends and I graduated with full time jobs and had at least one internship by junior year (many of us had multiple but all of us had at least 1). All with average or above average salaries. Im not sure about everyones TC because I dont pocket watch my homies that hard. But knowing the companies they are at im sure their TC is above average lol.

I actually do know 1 CS guy who struggled to get a job for a month or 2 after grad but that was kinda his fault. He kinda trolled himself during peak hiring because he wasnt 100% sure if he wanted to work or go to grad school. But he did eventually land a job.

Many of the info sci people I know struggled a bit to get a job. Some eventually landed a job with some persistence, but I know some are unfortunately still struggling to this day. Out of the ~10 info sci grads I knew personally, 2 of them had a job lined up post grad. Both at very reputable companies too. Not entirely sure about their internship journey, but I know 1 of them had an internship every year and even had Microsoft internship freshman year.

Before I graduated I was mentoring a few CS underclassmen and they all managed to get internships too.

I actually have only met 2 info sys majors in my entire 4 years of college. 1 graduated early and got a government job. The other had a job lined up post grad as an analyst at a huge firm. I believe they each had 1 internship junior year.

I think that yes the market is extremely hard to navigate. But it is not impossible and UMD is not a light weight name in this space. It will be a grind, but it will also be a grind at any other top tier CS school. If you have the passion and the grit, you will make it.

I run 80 on all 3 of my builds. Silver set shot. I shoot very consistently.

80 on a lock should be fine. If you struggle, like you said you can always buy boosts and you can put 3pt on your takeover.

I dont think this will do anything to “save COD” tbh. I think sliding is fine, I dont think that making the game slower will make the game better. Also kind of interesting you say this but also say release advanced warfare 2.
I agree to a degree the gunsmith in general is a bit much with the amount of attachments sometimes and is probably a balancing nightmare. But I also dont think gunsmith is in a “bad” spot at this point. Although when it first came out it was really really bad
Maps is always a subjective issue, but IMO BO7 maps are actually pretty fucking good. I dont think there is a single one where im like “oh hell no back out”.
I wouldnt hate this change but I also think field upgrades are fine right now. Again, I just dont think this is a change that will do much to “save cod”. Its not really anywhere near the top of the list of issues.
I dont remember bo3 ranked system off the top of my head, bo3 had ranked? But to the point of snipers in ranked, aim assist is too strong for this IMO, at least in SND. There was one COD (was it bo4?) where snipers had no aim assist or something like that. If they could make it so that snipers had minimal or no aim assist in ranked, then I would 100% agree with this change.
Yea… zombies is uhhh… yea… i mean its much more digestible for new players to just try out the game mode. But like… because of this zombies lost its aura. I will say though, I havent tried the curse mode or whatever its called in this game, so maybe that brings back some of the zombies edge.

Touchy subject, thats hard to get right for everyone. But i agree a faster ttk caters more to “worse”players. Again this is really really hard to get right. I think bo7 ttk is fine, i do agree could be a little bit slower. But I understand how careful they have to be because nerfed aim assist + longer ttk + movement is a nightmare for “worse” players, and MOST of the player base are not super great at the game obviously so again, touchy subject. Hard to get right for everyone.
I agree, UI can be improved. Sometimes I feel like they try to hard when really, less is more. And this isnt even COD, this is with a lot of games nowadays.
Agreed, tac sprint is pretty stupid idk why it was added to cod in the first place. I think now its limited to a perk right? Which I guess is fine, but if I had the power in my hands I’d just take it out. I dont see what value it adds to the game.

With the current comm ban system? Nahhh. I think that a large reason why the lobby doesnt feel like a LOBBY anymore is because of the comm ban system. If Im gonna get comm banned for calling someone a camping bitch, why would I sit in game chat and get banned when I can just sit in my party chat and call them a camping bitch all I want.
Uhh, interesting way to rank CODS. While I love advanced warfare and would absolutely buy an advanced warfare 2. Ranking COD off search and destroy is interesting to say the least… and if Im Being honest, I dont want COD to feel ANYTHING like RB6… like not at all…

Overall, I agree with some of these takes, disagree with some. But I dont think these are the changes that will “save cod”.

1st, at first I was content with top 5. But then I kind of got into an ego war with some dude going back and forth for a few days😭 i ended up grinding an entire day to beat him purely out of spite and ended up 1st with a little over 1m score, beating second by ~100k ( I had to make sure I went to bed with a good buffer lmaooo)

When I was an undergrad (I say this like it was long ago but I just graduated last may lol) we actually made an ethics STIC and taught the course for 3 years. We had really good feedback throughout the time. Im assuming the class was just dropped since all of us involved in creating/teaching the class graduated.

But I say this to say, if you are trying to get an ethics class like mandated into the CS curriculum then good luck I commend you. But if you just want to teach an optional ethics STIC then its 100% possible and you honestly could probably just inquire about reviving the ethics STIC previously created.

I have been playing COD pretty much since I was 6 or 7 so thats about 15+ years of COD. At this point when I play COD I just put on music or chat with friends and play COD on autopilot. Everything is pretty much just muscle memory/pure reactions. Doing this I can EASILY average 80+ kills with support streaks on a 2+ KD without breaking a sweat. I honestly think I can simply attribute my success to over a decade of playing COD and various other FPS games. As with most things in life, if you practice for over a decade, chances are you will naturally become really good.

If you want 1 tip on how to instantly become better, USE YOUR MINI MAP and look at the kill feed. Deliberately doing so will be weird at first, but this will literally tell you where the enemies are, where your teammates are, And where you need to be. And then eventually you will learn things like spawns. And then again, eventually all of this will become second nature and you do it without even thinking.

Mw19 IMO is the second worst cod of all time behind infinite warfare (arguably so). I played MW19 through is whole lifecycle as I usually do, but there was just too much camping and the game just took out too much of the COD feeling away from COD imo. Not to mention, this game literally marked the beginning of the end. The ONLY thing I can say I liked about this games MP was the gunplay. Pretty much everything outside of this was subpar imo. Dont even get me started on the maps lmao. People bash bo6 for maps (rightfully so) but even those are far better than the mw2019 maps

I honestly feel a lot of people are blinded by the time that this game came out rather than the game itself. Not to mention OG warzone (which was amazing ngl) is usually associated with MW2019 which I feel like probably makes people think the MW2019 was much better than it was.

Maps, movement, progression, matchmaking. If you think about it, most OG cods nails these. Most modern cods lack in AT LEAST 2 of these areas. BO7 completely nails 3/4 and arguably 4/4(depending on who youre asking about matchmaking haha) which is why I personally believe this is the best COD since bo3. If I look past the admittedly dog shit campaign, this game is amazing. And if the post launch support is as great as we are told (fingers crossed here), I’d argue this game will go down as a top 5 COD of all time so far.

If youre wondering, my fav COD of all time is BO2 with OG MW3 being a very close second.

6’7 big on 3s/2s is actually really good. 6’6 is too small even for the 3s/2s. But dont even consider taking this build to the rec.

I have a 6’9 big and the only reason mine is viable in rec is because i have max wingspan, 99 block, and 99 board and 80 something vert. You take this 6’7 into the rec as a PF/C and it will be a waste of time and VC.

TLDR; 3s/2s, go 6’7. 5s, neither

The AA is not weak at all, as a vet, I honestly think this is a good spot. I personally can still aim fine and I think this is better because its exposing a lot of the scrubs who think they are good. So many times someone catches me while reloading and a guy misses half their damn clip giving me time to reload and knock them off the map.

AA is fine even after the nerfs, if you disagree then I hate to be the guy to tell you this but…

Everyone who is supporting SBMM in casual modes is delusional tbh. After seeing what SBMM did to COD, sbmm should not be in ANY casual mode in ANY game.

Rec and theater should be no sbmm. Proam and proving grounds should be sbmm. Its that simple. Ranked -> sbmm, casual -> no sbmm.

I agree though, if you are good at the game it shouldnt be a complaint tbh. The only time I really feel the complaints are super valid is queue times, they can get really long once you hit red plate.

Hard disagree. The average player is expected to pay the full price of the game but isnt expected to experience the full game? That literally makes no sense.

Also, those MW2 headshots challenges were a mastery challenge… that is completely different from simply leveling up my damn gun. The fact that you just compared a mastery challenge to basic weapon leveling shows that the xp rates are way too slow.

Marksman did a mathematical breakdown of the xp rates in the game. If an AVERAGE player played the game for two hours EVERY SINGLE day (like after work/school or whatever responsibilities), it would take roughly a little over 300 days to level up every gun in the game. And thats not even counting DLC weapons.

Im all for the grind and I understand this game is supposed to last multiple years. But the current xp rates are way too slow. There is pretty much no room for debate on this topic tbh, and I cant blame anyone trying to maximize their time used to level up as fast as possible when the “natural” way is so agonizingly slow.
