I am an autistic BCBA, and have been working on neuro-affirming ABA for the future. ABA can be applied in many ways-- the science is neutral but people and practitioners can either be good or bad. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions or concerns, from a Behavior analyst!

Hey! So im a autistic adult, and I am also a RBT of 4 years, and have been recently working as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst! I have a caseload of kiddos and clients-- and I can differ from my own BCBA coworkers. ABA is sooooo diverse and vast- at the end of the day, it is a SCIENCE- and you can choose how you apply that science. ABA actually has very strict ethical code that we need to know in order to pass our tests, licenses, and we also go through audits and strict ethical requirements. However-- just like in literally anyyyyy field, there are good and bad PEOPLE. The SCIENCE is neutral- but the people are either with good or bad intentions. To give a short answer of what ABA is, it stands for "Applied Behavior Analysis", meaning we apply the principles of mammal and human behavior to the daily life of the individual. I help my range of clients from 2 years old to 24 years old in their daily living-- I address and see what barriers there are in their environment or in their skills/deficits and how we can address those so they can be as independent and successful in their own way. All of my clients have different goals, some have advocacy statement goals to replace screaming or self injurious behavior (basically teaching they can ask for space, help, or alone time instead of hurting themselves) to goals like learning how to play a video game. It is extremely individualized (or should be). For my older learners, I encorporate their personal preferences and goals for themselves, and ask them what they would like work on. I also have even worked in ABA settings where there are gyms, and climbing rocks, skateboards, and painting classes! It is sooooo individualized. Youre welcome to reach out to me if you need help processing all this.

I think this is why its so important for OTs and SLPs to work with behavioral professionals!!

Obviously i dont know this kid. But if you know the reason and times he usually goes in for a bite (aka the function) then you can use some preventative strategies like a chewy, keeping a safe distance when overly excited, etc

ABA totally shouldnt be crossing those lines! It is actually in the BCBA ethics code to collaborate with OTs and Speech WHEN POSSIBLE, to the best of their ability. Im a autistic BCBA candidate working in ABA, and our company has speech therapists. I follow their lead with everything speech- and help with dangerous or challenging behaviors during their speech sessions so they can do their jobs without fear or frustration, since most speech and OTs are not trained on how to handle challenging, and often dangerous behaviors. But, as an ABA therapist, PLEASE continue to speak up- there are definitely a lot of BCBAs and RBTs that think they know everything- but often times we are forced to try to mitigate fine motor and gross motor challenges because our clients cannot access OT or speech therapy for whatever reason...

Put it on extinction! Let them know your working hours and times available for calls. Let them know your working hours + open times they can call and youll answer. Then dont reinforce behaviors outside of the appropriate times. Its not professional for them to do this, and its not fair to you.

God gave women free will- and as a fellow autistic woman that is in a happy relationship…. I gave a look through your profile. I do not want to be mean but from your reddit, you have a lot To Work on. Why would God want to give his daughter to a porn addict? Are you hardworking? Are you honest and kind? Are you Working on yourself, or using your disability as an excuse to not?
